Retrax Installed...slight PITA
Got a Retrax rolltop cover last week and dropped it in over the weekend. Never knew from reading threads here that they use the Taco built in rails to mount the rolltop to. Slight problem is the aluminum blocks they are currently using to slide in the tracks are tapped at a slight angle to the face of the rail (attach bolt tilts up about 3 deg). This caused a few choice words to escape me while attempting to thread a couple of the bolts...Retrax sent me a new set of 4 after I reported 'making my own threads' in one of the blocks (read: cross threaded the living s*** out of one of them). Fit/finish awesome; bought the solenoid tailgate lock and cover lock; only way to go IMO.
Thanks to the detailed thread on the forum that led me to the correct wires under the drivers entry panel (blue/red stripe, blue/black stripe) that powers both solenoids. It is very nice to unlock both the tailgate and cover with the second tap of the key fob. Somebody must have listened at Retrax b/c the bushing size was perfect and the locking mechanism fits like the inner workings of a swiss watch.
The solenoid that unlocks the rolltop cover needed about 6" of black plastic wire wrap to conceal the wires from the solenoid..that's about the only missing part from the install kit. Going to mount a fork-mount for the road bike on the forward plate of the rolltop cover this weekend.
Debadged it, Zaino'd it, roof racked it, got some plat silver Sequoia wheels on it today (for the first time in my life, I found a guy who is competent, has a good Hunter machine, and took care of the wheels like they were his), and will get the running boards on this weekend (yeah...old man-ish...but the little runts can't get in the back seats very easy w/o 'em!). Hopefully pix to follow this weekend!
