OK, so a couple weeks ago I was re-doing my headlight mod to get it perfect this time since the first time I did it there were chips in the black and I am an anal retentive perfectionist. So I successfully got the lights put back together and baked and it was perfect! But wait! I see a little of the silver glue on the OUTSIDE of the lense. I am thinking, no problem, and I scratch at it with my finger nail, which spreads it and hardens it since it cooled faster.... so I go to what I know and grab the Gojo (without thinking of the possible implications of using a grit based hand cleaner on plastic....) and long story short, now my friggin' right headlight looks terrible. I tried rubbing compound, which made it a little better, but still anything but perfect.
my questions is this.... does anyone on here have an extra lense I can buy, or do you know where I can get one? I really don't wanna buy a $200 part for this. I looked at eBay and found a slightly damaged on the bracket (which wouldn't matter anyways) headlight for $80, which is better, but I was hoping for just the lense for around $20 or something... any suggestions? maybe a different kind of rubbing compound? I used McGuires Scratch X....

Passenger side... oh God bless you if this works out... as I promised another member for another item similar, there is a case of beer in it for you if you are 21 or older and it works out... HAHAHAHA BTW... I seriously will deliver on this promise!

Plastic polishing compound + buffing wheel in a drill + 1 hour work = beautifully clear headlight again. Go to Home Depot in the tools department, at the end of the aisle that has the table saws and stuff, you'll see the stuff I'm talking about.

Yep- passenger side is what I will have in the next week. I need the back part of the light because I fried the original in the oven. When all is said and done, I will have two lenses and need only one. I haven't seen the lense yet, but the seller says it is in very good shape with only a couple minor scratches. If you were sending me a message, I could not get it because my computer security blocked it. Email me at: premark@d.umn.edu
Haha, this is exactly the reason why I will not even attempt the "headlight mod." I am very anal retentive as well and just for that reason alone, I will not bust open expensive headlamps, paint them, and silicone them back together. Only reason I would do it is if it increased the value of the vehicle and we all know that is not going to happen. So while everyone overheats, chips the paint, scratches the lense, and brakes the reflectors, I'm proud to know my headlamps are 100% factory built, good working condition, and I can drive my Tacoma whenever I want (day or night) because there aren't parts missing from it.
Haha, sorry, I have to laugh sometimes!

Dude, I have all the parts and they work fine... just look a little hazy and this will be fixed to look better than the 100% factory built headlights... but to each their own.

Sometimes you just have to "strap on a set" and do something unique. No guts, no glory. Personalize your truck and learn a few things in the process. I could easily buy a new set of lights, but after going black, I'd never go back. When Toyota calls and asks me what I want in a truck and then builds it to my specs, I won't have to worry about my own mods. I could give a rip about re-sale. No one in town has a truck like me- that I can live with.

that's the beauty of Tacomas... no it will not increase resale. but it won't decrease it so it's still WAY WAY WAY above anything comparable... seriously... sometimes you just have to grab onto your boyz and go for it... you'll lead a boring life if you are always that cautious...
Remarkable and I strapped our on, when will you? BTW, just bustin your balls man... if you won't someone else has to!

I'm willing to bet I'm quite young (23) compared to most of the owners here. With that said, it wasn't too long ago that I was doing anything/everything to my vehicles that made them run better, faster, look better, faster, etc. I learned my leason about reliability - don't touch it/modify it, leave it the way it was designed, and it will last you a long time.
This obviously doesn't apply to headlamps because it's only paint, but my point is that you are more likely to have potential problems while modifying stuff and I'm not into that sort of stuff anymore. I want everything fully functional and I truely don't mind paying some extra money for "official" mods (ie TRD intake and exhaust) that I know will fit and function without a hitch.
My father always said and still says, "Get another car if you want to modify it, race it, etc. Don't sacrafice your daily driver because at the end of the day, you won't have to worry about how it might perform tomorrow."
Btw, just to make it clear, I love the headlight mod and think it looks great. If a company manufactured a set of "black," I would instantly buy them. I just don't want to sacrafice a factory seal for silicone. I also couldn't live with myself if I screwed it up, haha! Rock on guys, or should I say MOD ON!

I'm amazed you've learned that by 23. It takes most folks a lot longer. Keep toys seperate from tools whenever possible, and you'll have much better toys AND tools.
