(I used to sell GMC trucks, in case anyone is wondering why I would even post this stuff )
Last night, I drove my wife's vehicle home from work, so that I could fill it up with gas, wash it, and check the tires.
Anyway... at about 1 AM, after I had done all of that, I stopped in the local GMC dealership to look at the new Sierras, which are finally on the lot. I really like the way they look, inside and out. I'm definitely not in the market for a new vehicle. But, I was curious to see the sticker on them.
First one I saw was a regular cab, 2wd, base work truck with the rubber floor, 4.8 V8, automatic: $21k and change.
Next to that one was a crew cab, SLT, 2wd with the Z71 package, loaded with leather, wood grain trim, etc, 6.0 V8: $44,000!!!
Finally, I looked at an extended cab with the standard 4x4 package. It also had leather, but it had the front bench seat with a HUGE fold-down console in the center, and it didn't have the wood trim, 5.3 V8: roughly $35k.
Unbelieveable, the pricing differences between the packages. To be honest, though... even the work truck interior was nicer than the interior in the 2004 Z71 that I owned. One strange thing I noticed... the front air dam is only about 6 or 7 inches off the ground. ANY wheeling at all would mean taking it off (or having it ripped off). The extended cab truck seemed to be priced just about right for the equipment it had. The crew cab... well... the 6.0, SLT, and Z71 combo priced it right out of the range of most 2wd truck buyers, I'd imagine. Overall... they are pretty nice looking vehicles. A huge improvement over the previous model. The new Tundra is gonna have it's hands full.

im feelin the new sierras, but the pricing is rediculous. that 6.0 puts out some power though. i had an 03 silverado with the 4.8 and loved the truck. I've actually had more problems with my toyota than the silverado, so don't pull the domestic is crap card. But ya, 35k is rediculous.
The new Gm looks sweet man. The denali version is a pimp mobil. I would get a sierra over a tundra. Not really digging the new tundras face. Maybe if they had a color matched grill instead of the big ass chrome i woul d like the tundra.
Im trying to get my dad to get a new Sierra his a GMC fan and i personally like the sierra, very comfy, big, and lots of power.
His thinking about looking at the HD models onces they come out. I havent seen one yet.
tucson,
i believe the gmc warranty is recent and i read an E-article that stated this was done to try and offset gm losing truck sales to foreign automakers (i dont have the article tho so its a grain of salt i guess).
brock,
i had a 04 2500 hd with tow package etc etc and so many problems with it i sold it at quite a loss and felt lucky i was able to unload it....so i feel the "card" is okay for me to play since i earned it thru experience. altho i did love the ride of that truck and the big engine it had.
but i freely admit i might have gotten a lemon and u might have gotten an exceptionally well put together one (of course i have also owned a 96 formula, a 05 cobalt, a 01 echo, a 00 toyota trd, a 91 toyota reg cab, 99 cobra, and 01 cobra, and the gm products were always giving me the most probs).
im not a hater, but i think the fact tht both gm and ford are losing to foreign made automakers (not just toyota) is an indication where things are going...i don't make enough money to drive a vehicle with lots of probs.

For some reason im not liking the front grille of the silverado. I like the sierras.
My dad has own two Sierras. one with the 8.1L and the other is the duramax, both HD and man this puppies can pull and they have power. And not a single problem on both. The 8.1L is a 02 and the duramax is an 06. Gas miealage sucks but hey company pays for gas and diesel. Not one trip to the dealer etheir.
Ha, the only thing a GMC/Chevy and a Toyota will have in common are the HVAC units and the PODS/SDM units which are supplied to all three of the companies by Delphi.
I like the new Tundra better, but it'd be nice if Toyota would put in a diesel powerplant into their Tundra (and a nice smaller diesel for the Tacoma! )

I really like the new chevy/gmc. IMO the interior was nicer in those than in the new Tundra when I sat in them both at the Boston auto show. But I agree, the chevy's prices are crazy.
I looked at the new Silverado and Sierra while comparo shopping...Good looking trucks, but one thing that for one reason or another stuck out to me was that the rear wheel wells just look...unfinished. Like they forgot to put some trim in there. Maybe it's just me.
The plastic inside is comparable to a Nissan 350Z, which if you're familiar with them, isn't exactly a compliment. I think KIA is using better grade stuff these days.
The one thing that initially suckered my in was V8 availability. But by the time you price everything in, you in the upper $30K's.

Toyota is in negotiatons or has already acquired the diesel manufacturing arm of Isuzu. There may be a diesel in Toyota's future, soon.
GM has owned the biggest percentage of Isuzu for years. I do not know their position now.
I may be wrong in saying this, but if you look at the Isuzu gas engines, double overhead cams, all aluminum, those engines may be in some GM cars today. Imagine that.
I just can never get past their reliability and build quality. I will always have a biased against GM/Ford and never buy any of their vehicles. Im sure they have gotten alot better but I will never get rid of this bias.
