I am very interested in purchasing a new Taco. I've seen some Tacos with hood scoops and some without. Is it true that you can only get a hood scoop in a 4x2 model?
Alot of people don't like it as it obstructs road vision a bit
my truck has a scoop and i dont think it obstructs my vision at all, if you think this small scoop is bad you should see some of the other vehicles i have been in with 8 inch cowl hoods that is obstuctive
i personally think the scoop is a nice finish touch on the hood and breaks the hood up a little bit, when i first drove a new tacoma it was a model withouht the scoop and i remember thinking man that hood is so big and flat but thats just my opinion
With or without truck looks good. I really dont like the scoop for some reason. I dont know why though, i could have came home the night i bought my truck with a sport edition tacoma but i liked the Tacoma without a scoop. Plus i see tons of tacomas with the sport hood.
a) the hood scoop is about as obstructive as a minor bug splat on the windshield.
b) it CAN be made useful. I have opened up the hoodscoop, and the temperature in the engine bay is on avg. 15 degrees cooler now. Also, water is hardly a problem. Very little water gets in there, and if so, it lands on top of the plastic cover, and drains off in front of the fan. Either way, the water just turns into steam and just provides further cooling.
The only way I was going to have one is with the hood scoop. I like it. Makes the truck look more muscular IMO.

It's all a matter of personal taste, get what you like. I bought my taco with the scoop as I like the look it gives, I know others will agree and others will disagree. The choice is yours as your the one who has to make the payments. Just my .02

Every time it rains or I wash my truck water gets in through the scoop anyways. I was thinking of opening mine up and I think you just made up my mind of doing so.

The most important aspect of the scoop (visually) is that the package it's included in has a body colored bumper, grille, door handles, and mirrors instead of chrome and black stuff. That's why I have the scoop - my only choice for truck color was white, and I didn't like the look of white with chrome grille/bumper and black door handles. Wasn't going to happen. I think the scoop is pretty cool looking, but it's actually quite irritating when your truck is clean and you're heading into the sun, as the glare off the scoop hits you straight in the face.
I like the scoop and have no problems with it. My wife hates the scoop she's 5'1"and it obstructs her vision and during the evening when the sun is setting the glare is blinding. I guess the scoop does have its advantages she hardly drives my truck.
