Which C02 tank...

Powertank

Ultimate Air

The Source Hyflow

This is just to be used as an air source for tools and airing up tires. Thought maybe you guys would have some experience or info on these systems.

Next summer, I'll be adding this set-up to run my lockers...

ARB Tanks

Co2???? for airing your tires??

Would not nitrogen be a better choice? I am not into the whole off-road stuff so I am not up on this stuff. I have run air tools and filled tires with Nitrogen (from my racing days) but not C02. I guess it would work OK.

CO2 works OK in my paintball marker but nitrogen works much better.

Somebody educate me...

^ I believe the idea is that you can get more "air" from a similar-sized bottle using CO2, for the same cost to fill.

Everything I am hearing/reading says a 10# co2 bottle will air up a set of 4 33" tires (from low to higher psi) about 20-30 times, depending on who you listen to and the manufacturer's claims.

check this thread out...

And watch this little vid on the power tank home page...

I don't know shit about CO2 tanks, plus I'm spending all my time trying to figure your new title out.

I'd wait and see who gives you the best "after Xmas" deal.

Stayin warm over there in sub-freezing Kentucky? It was almost 60 here today in sunny Colorado

Hey PIMPIN, i mean BB, have you considered the co2 tanks that wheelers carries. they are hyperflow. i really don't know anything about co2 tanks for our purposes. but it would be nice to get one. share any info that you develop.

^ I'm learning on the fly. I had previously thought that they had to be mounted up-right to operate. However, that is not true. They will work upsidedown or lying flat, too. This and the lack of (more) electrical circuits is what sold me on a tank over a compressor. You can even run ARB lockers off co2 tanks with no electrical switches.

I think this is what I want from Santa this year, but I don't want to get in a hurry and pick a lesser system. At the same time, I don't want to overpay for something just as good. I guess the biggest difference is the quality of the tank and the regulator.

screeber- 66 huh?

Yeah, the weather sucks pretty much. Had some flurries the other morning. Supposed to be a high of 44 tomorrow with sun. Hope it's nice, we're going on a Toys For Tots ride in so. Indiana.

i don't know how much differences there are in tanks, other than size of course. but you are definitely right about the regulators, i think that is the bigger chunk of money. keep passing on the info.

where and how do you plan on mounting it?

Now that makes it a really great option.

You must have a better wife than I; I could not convince mine to buy anything "truck-related" for me. She says it's too impersonal.... I guess that means I'm getting boxers and socks again

Probably look at aspot on top of the wheel well in the bed and just take it in and out as I need it. If not there, just inside the tailgate on the driver's side, long-ways, with the regulator pointing towards the back. Thats all I've got so far.

BB why a bottle and not a compressor? For the price of those tanks you could buy a really nice compressor like one of the ExtremeAire units, and tanks are cheap, you could get a 2-4 gallon tank for $60-$70. I'm not much help with the tanks, I know nothing about them really other then the Powertank's are I think the more popular of the bunch. Obviously you're paying for the regulator so go with what's best. I know tanks are convenient but a compressor with enough hose can be equally as nice for tools and airing up tires plus you never have to worry about running out of air. Personally I'd go with a compressor and mounted tank but I'm sure you have your reasons for going with a portable tank unit and if it was my money, looking at those three options I like the Powertank.

i don't know a whole lot about all these options for vehicles. but i do know that air tools require decent size compressors to be able to run. especially cut-off wheels, etc. i just can't imagine a small vehicle mounted compressor being strong enough to run the majority of air tools
