LEER cap 100R, skirt or no skirt? '06 D cab Tacoma super short
I've had it...the tonneu cover was a mistake. I can't access anything, you can't unsnap it when it's cold, I can't haul anything over 3' high, it's gotta go!
I have looked extensively for a cap...A.R.E is too expensive, Snugtop not available in PA, i'm just not wild about the Jeraco and Century design, LEER looks OK but the 100LE that I wanted is discontinued...so it looks like a LEER 100R. The 100XL looks nice too, but I thought that the framed window design of the 100R would look better with the rubber framed windows of the Tacoma. Now.....do I remove the factory bedrail protectors or do I buy a "skirted" cap to cover them up? Does the skirt puff the sides out and leave a gap underneath that looks bad? Does it cover the bedrail protector completely?
Not sure if i'm gonna be of help or not. I'm looking for a canopy for my '05 Dbl cab but i'm leaning towards the Raider Nomad II canopy as I think it looks the nicest. I like the Leer but just not as available here in Alberta. I was at a shop today and the canopies I saw actually have a reveal on them that covers over the bed rail protector. So the canopy itself sits on the bedrail but has another 2" of fiberglass that continues down to hide the black plastic. Then the canopy uses the existing tie-down rails in the truck to hold the canopy in place. No more of those aluminum C- jaws like my 2000 Taco. Anyway, it's pretty sweet. Well you made my mind up regarding tonneau covers. Just not enough room in them.
I have a Leer shell, cant remember which one. Whatever the "base model" is...They didn't remove any of the caps or anything, just plopped in on. Took longer to wire up the cargo/3rd brakelight than anything!(3 hours!! )

cddallara, your picture is exactly what I was looking for...if you have the bedrails under there you sure would never know it. I was concerned that it would make it look funky. That isn't the same cap, but I'm sure that the design is similar.

Before you toss that tonno cover to the curb, I might be interested in it.

I think that I'm going to buy a cap and will probably get rid of the tonneu, I'll let you know first. It's only 2 months old and obviously like new, I really hate to have to get rid of it because it looks much better than a cap ever will...it's just not fitting the purpose. I travel a lot and quite frequently pack lots of gear in the back. If my wife and my 2 boys are with me, I have no room to put anything in the cab, we end up having to unsnap the front of the cover to try and strategically place more stuff closer to the front. I need to do it before the 1st of the year, I'll let you know....
Well I did it.....I bought a LEER 100R, the tonneau is on it's way out. I worked with LEER's technical support to get a few questions answered and I have to say that they were great! That combined with words of wisdom from this forum healped greatly.
Remember..you guys that may be concidering a LEER....if you have a compeditors coupon take it with you. The LEER factory will reimburse the dealer and you will get an additional $25 in your pocket!
