Ok. I mentioned this in my TRD vs. Wet Okole post so I'll elaborate.
Yesterday afternoon a friend of mine drove past my house and honked his horn as in a gesture so swing by his house which is about a block away. I live at the edge of a small public park large enough to drive a vehicle through even though you arent supposed to. Anyways, I was going to take the back way through the woods to get to his house, which was weird because I came head on with him in the woods while he waws trying to do the same thing as me( no we didnt actually hit each other) He leaned out of his window and told me to follow him to an open empty dirt lot to do doughnuts...I agreed.(mistake)...to make an even longer story short I was spinning and a rock shot up and broke his window.(he drives a 2000 chevy blazer 4 door) it wasnt the winshield or any of the rollup door windows nor the back window. It was one of the small windows in the rear that when looked through you saw the cargo area of his suv. now to the question
Should I be fully responsible of covering the repair of the window or do you think that since it wasnt my idea to do doughnuts in the first place that I should only have to pay for half of the damages? I personally think that it is more of my fault because nobody made me do the doughnuts which resulten in $295 worth of damage. I told him that I would pay for it but the more I think about it the less I think I should have to pay. I told him if anything I wont be able to pay untill after christmas and he seemed a little pissed at that thought. besides Its an older truck and im gonna search some junk yards first...I dont know tell me what you guys think. Ill post pictures of the damage later...

He called chevrolet and they gave him that price. I couldnt beleive it because he said he replaced the windsheied on that same vehicle and it only cost 200. Its a wierd situation, its like he needs to get it done now. He doenst seem to understand my financial situation and realize that fixing it isnt high on my list of priorities. I feel bad that it happened but we taped it up well with black duct-tape and his truck is black so you cant even tell. I mean shit...I think that if I searched I could find one and install it myself for probably $50. He wont let me install it more than likely though because he has no mechanial inclination and thinks that everything could should be done by a "professional" I think I could handle it.

You really shouldn't have to pay for his window since you both were off roading. That's part of the hazards of playing around in the dirt. It's a friendly thing to do but your not obliged to pay for his window.
I'd pay if for no other reason but as a gesture of good will considering he is your so called friend. It may have been his idea but you willingly followed, and at the end of the day we are all responsible for our own actions. Chalk it up to bad luck if you need, but it was your actions which caused a rock to break your friends window. End of debate as far as I see it.
Flip the situation.... If your window was the one to get broken from his truck kicking up rocks then you would probally be expecting him to replace your glass,,, and as for not wanting to wait for it, well do you wanna ride around with tape all over where your glass use to be....
As a friend it would be nice to offer to split the cost but at least he isn't trying to claim it on your insurance...
The cost of those little side glass can be insane... you might try calling around and seeing if anyone has a better deal but for some reason they seem to be outragously priced
In the end I say grit your teeth pay it up and take it as a learning experiance...
If he allows you to pay 100% of the repair then I think you've seen how much of a friend he really is.
To be honest if I where in his shoes. You'd pay 0% unless you insisted.

_Ditto, no true friend would expect that._________________
If you have to pay dealer price, then pay half. If you can find one at a junk yard, maybe pay in full depending on how much it is. I definitely think he shouldn't expect you to pay for the whole thing, what kind of friend is that. he's the one that wanted you to go "play." I think when he found out how much is was to fix, that propably got his feathers rustled quite a bit. Hey maybe his (if he has one) wife is pissed is making him bust your balls. I know mine would, unfortunately. Good Luck. Is this window worth a friendship?
My friend's puppy damaged the inside of my SUV once, I was really pissed, but when he offered to fix it, I declined. Years later, a friend of mine damaged his car while backing up (this did more damage than his puppy). I offered to fix it, he declined. These were not beater vehicles. I don't see how you intentionally did any damage (did you?) . A good friend would offer to pay (you did). Had my friend accepted my payment we would still be 'friends' (dime a dozen). But not good friends.
