Just some quick vids. AS the title indicates, this was a tft's run at a closed ORV park. It is currently closed due to a reclaimation project, but was prpared and opened just for today's ride. The park should be open full-time sometime after 2007.

There were. (i'm guessing) 200+ trucks, 300+ people and a shit ton of 4-wheelser and trail rigs. I saw some awesome stuff today. Saw a sas'd 87 taco completely lose a mirror and cave in the whole door sliding into a tree. I am so fu(king tired. I feel like I was wrung-out like a wet rag. It was very cold today, broke thru a lot of ice.

Me making a hill (open/open when the two guys in front of me were running rear lockers and had to be towed)

Me squeezing thru some tight spots and learning to work with open diffs...

Nice! Why were you open all around? Just wanted to do it, or don't you have a rear locker?

The trails were rated pink, green and white, respective to level of difficulty, white being the toughest. We and several others felt that the trails were mis-marked or badly under-rated. Some of the pink trails were down-right hard. Very, very tight thru the trails with off camber hills and close humps to hang your bumper. I got pulled out, off, over 3 times today. Hills and stuff are fine, but when they go up and with a left to right slope with tress on the low side, and oh yeah the hill is solid, frozen mud, that IMO is not a bunny trail.

I really did some damage to my truck today, and I was in way over my head on this ride. My rear bubmper is toast, lost the tail light...again, somehow managed to bend and dent the tailgate, and oh yeah, the front diff is leaking fluid. Tomorrow should be fun as I'll get to see what all is broken.

Way to represent the 05+ Tacomas.

You owned 'em on that hill climb. "I want a V6." LOL

^ yeah, I was kinda liking that, myself.

These trucks are just heavy enough, powerful enough and have just a long enough wheelbase to do some stuff that the older, lighter tacos (even with lockers) can't. Even some built-up Jeeps. I got some compliments today from a group of Jeepers on my ball size and the truck's capabilities.

Here are some pics of the trail. Just stuff that caught my attention as being just a bit difficult for a bunny trail...

And here is a good example. Pretty steep decline, straight off, blind into a tree and at the bottom of the hill, the trail takes off to the right. And just for shits and giggles, the camber of the hill combined with the slick as owl snot ground causes you to slide right into that tree on the right. I hit it with my passenger side rear door, it hit square on the door handle, caved the door in for a second and then bounced off the tree like tupperware. I was pretty much suspended by the seatbelt shoulder strap for this shot.

This was also on the "bunny" trail...

Yeah, that's a pile of boulders at the bottom

After I pulled this guy out, he took another line and made it over the rocks, but just couldn't make it up the other side. I turned my big ass around and found another way.

Real nice! You made that hill look easy. What was that other guy driving?

Leaking diff fluid huh? That sucks. You should have pretty good protection from the lower skid plate, unless you smashed it on a boulder?

I'll be interested in the detailed damage report (with pics)!

The other guy was in an 88 (i think) toyota truck with full suspension, 33" mt's and a rear locker.

Man, I'm really not sure what all is damaged. I really kinda scared to go out and look. I just took the trash out at around 7:00 yesterday an just happened to notice a nice pool under the truck.

Dude, seriously, the rear end is hurting. I'll post pics in a bit. Looks like it's a high clearance rear bumper kinda Christmas this year. And if I can't get the tailgate open without a prybar, I'm gonna be looking at a tire gate, too. Good thing I didn't order an air tank.

Some of the other rigs there...I guess I should have taken the hint that this was for the big boys.

Damage report

I'm happy to report that the damage is not all as bad as I thought it was. First of all, and most importantly, the brown fluid leaking from the front diff turned out to be a chunk of muddy ice that was stuck up in the skid plate and had melted from the heat of the engine. I walked out this morning and the puddle was gone. Sheww!

Got some tree damage on every single fender flare and both bumpers. What can I say, sometimes you just have to hit/run over them. I can definately see some line-xed fender flares in the future.

And, the good stuff. Funny thing is that I really don't know when all of this happened. The rear bumper is pushed in and rotated into the fender and under/behind the tailgate. Both bumper brackets are bent. And where the damage to the top of the tailgate and fender came from, who knows. But, I can't get the tailgate open. I must have hit a tree when I was sliding back down a hill or backing up or something, hell IRDK.

Here you can see where the tg is creased an bent inwards aon the upeer edge....

ouch. definitely good there is no leaking dif. fluid though. i wonder how much it would cost to line-x fender flares. that's a really good idea.

It might be better to just replace them with black Bushwacker flares.

I was thinking about that, but, I'm already too wide for the trails as it is. I guess the bushwackers are pretty flexible, though.
