Rs3200

Anyone know if the truck is ready to install the sensor in the dash?
Had a 03' Tundra and purchased a dash glass break sensor w/LED for under $35.00 and it went right in with simple wire tie in.

If your truck has the factory keyless entry only, you would need to buy the whole alarm system add on. Includes sensor, control box, and a huge wire harness that goes from the front door, across the dash and to the other front door.

It is somewhat time consuming, but not difficult.

I guess I dont understand your response - If I have keyless entry then my truck does or does not have the hardware already installed?

Thanks

If you have keyless entry only, then you don't have the alarm. It isn't pre-wired for the security system, you would need to purchase the alarm add-on extra.

Ya - This is what I was talking about, did it to my Tundra so was wondering about my new Tacoma...

$25 RS3200 Plus Upgrade, OEM Parts, NO wiring hacking!
For all of you wanting to upgrade your factory keyless entry to the full-blown security system, with Glass Break Sensor and all, it only takes $25 and an hour or so to do.

This uses a Toyota OEM part, so you won't have to got to RadioShack and rig something up. It also doesn't modify any of the truck's wiring, so it is 100% reversible!

I ordered the OEM part from Conyers Toyota here in the Atlanta area. They were VERY helpful and friendly. I had called 3 other dealers that were closer to me, and when they didn't have the part in-stock, I told them I would continue to call around. When the guys at Conyers Toyota heard me say I'd keep calling around, they offered to check other dealerships in the southeast, and then ordered it for me. Thanks guys!

Anyways, you're looking for Toyota OEM Part # 08192-60880. It is the Status Monitor for the RS3000 system used on 2000-2002 (and 2003?) Tundras. The invoice says it cost me $22.74 plus 1.59 in sales tax.

Using the tons of knowledge found here on TS, I was able to get everything wired up quickly. I first removed the plastic part of the Status Monitor's connectors. THE OEM PART, NOT THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTED TO THE TRUCK!!! The 2000-2003 part used two connectors, one for the LED and one for the microphone. I pulled the plastic off carefully so as not to hurt the pins. I then wrapped the pins in electrical tape so as to prevent accidental short-circuiting. However, be sure to leave the pins exposed where they will insert into the wiring harness on the truck. (DUH! )

I took the truck apart using the installation instructions for the RS3200 Plus, found here:
(2003 -) Tundra TVIP V5 (RS3200 Plus) 08586-0C830

It was pretty easy, and straightforward. How hard can it be when you have step-by-step instructions?

When hooking up the status monitor, simply insert the pins into the wiring harness on the truck as follows. This took some time and trial and error to figure out, but I did get it working! Pin numbers are on the truck's wiring harness, numbered left to right with the tab sticking up:
On the harness, the Pin #/Wire Color are as follows:
Pin 1: White & Black
Pin 2: Blue & White
Pin 3: Blue
Pin 4: Grey

Connect the wires from the Status Monitor to the following pins:
Pin 1: Black
Pin 2: Brown
Pin 3: White
Pin 4: Purple

Once connected, the pins on the Status Monitor shoudl connect to the wiring harness as follows:
Black -> White & Black
Brown -> Blue & White
White -> Blue
Purple -> Grey

I secured my wires to the wiring harness wih copious amounts of electrical tape, to ensure a semi-permanent union.

Then, you will need to adjust your glass Break Sensor. I used Gilley's instructions, found here:
HOW-TO: RS3200 finding and adjusting the GBS sensitivity

It's pretty easy, I found it easiest to just remove the unit altoghter so I wasn't crammed under the dash while working on it. Currently, my GBS is set to 6, but tapping on the passenger-side window doesn't set it off, so I'm planning to up it to 8 or so...

Reassemble as per the installation instructions, and you're all set. I was able to find a pair of TVIP decals for my windows on eBay. They were $4 shipped and should be here in the next day or so. Check out this thread to get some of your own:
vip window sticker part #

I got an instant $50/year reduction on my Liability insurance, so that paid for my $25 parts, and my $25 subscription fee to TS!

Please refer to the following TS threads for more info:

I don't believe it is, but you can think what you want.

Marc M is correct. I have the RS3200 system. To do it yourself would be a real PITA because of that wiring harness. I had a tech install it at the dealership and even he complained about that wiring harness. Mostly just routing the thing.

I did do it myself, and yes, it was a bit of a PITA.

Did your truck come with keyless entry? After you installed the factory security, do the doors lock when putting it into drive and vice versa? Does it make a sound when arming and disarming? Is there a warning light on the dash (flashing red)?
