SUPER BUMMER on new black Helo wheels - New night pics, daytime tomorrow!

Ok so I got my new 17x9 black Helo Maxx wheels today. Which I was super stoked about cos they look so tight. I went to one of the local tire shops to ask them about mounting them on my existing Bridgestone Duler H/T 265/65/17's. I plan on getting a decent all terrain tire in 265/70/17 soon but I simply can't afford to drop another 5 bills right now. Soooo....dude goes, "Those are too wide for that tire." I was like what? He's like "yea, what are those stock rim's 7 inch?" I was like well yea they're 17x7.5. He said that there's no way they'll mount on those wider rims. I was like are you sure yadda yadda and he said yea I've been doing this for like 40 years or some shit blah blah and yea they won't fit right. PLEASE tell me he's wrong guys. I know for a fact some folks on here are running 265/70/17's on the same exact wheel with no problem, so wtf difference would that make? I mean the 70's just have more sidewall than the stock 65's I got right? I'd appreciate it if you guys would tell me if this guy's on crack or not. I told him I knew people were running them on 265/70/17 and he told me he'd be glad to try it on one of them but he didn't think it would work.

Please gimme some feedback ASAP. Thanks much.

It will work, your tires will have the European look though.

LOL.

Damn I knew he was smoking crack

http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tires...ssproductid=20

Says right there. 265/65R17 112H H BW 056-449 7.5-9.5 So you can use up to 9.5" width on those tires and up to 9" wide on a 265/70/17

I betcha that guy just wanted to sell me tires. What a turd! I don't think I'll even go back tomorrow!!!

What do you mean Norcal? The sidewalls will be flatter basically right? I mean it's at least not the outer limit of the spec for those tires, which would be a 9.5" width.

More wondful news. These new wheels just get more and more complicated. Turns out I gotta order special lug nuts that will fit in the darned recessed holes in the Helo wheels. I was fortunate enough to pick a new tire shop whom the owner's wife drives a FJ Cruiser w/ aftermarket American Racing wheels. He had to get the same lugnuts for the AR's he put on his wife's ride. Anyhow, he's informed me they are $1 each so I'm lookin at another $24. Not only that but I gotta buy a thin walled socket that will slide over them and a breaker bar for the socket just so I can change my tire in the event that I have a flat. Yay...

Here's a pic of one of the wheels next to my truck I took this morning. I was too tired and in a hurry to take em all out and snap a pic.

It'll all be worth it once you get those puppies mounted up properly.

I agree 10SE. I decided to go to this nice BF Goodrich tire shop in town. They've got a bunch of old timer dudes that have worked there forever and it seems like a classy joint. They want a little more ($60) to dismount and remount all my tires but I feel confident they'll do a good job on the balancing and won't scuff/scratch my rims in the process. They've ordered my lugnuts and they should be there tomorrow at 10:30 tomorrow so I should be rollin' on em by noon tomorrow. It's too bad I can't afford new A/T's just yet but that's how it goes. I just can't have it all, all at once.

I still wish I knew what NorCal meant by saying my tires would have "the euro look". I guess he just meant the sidewall would be flatter and less pooched out and round? Given that the tire will have to stretch out more in width to cover that extra inch and a half that wasn't there on the stock rims.

Also, the guy at the tire shop showed me his big shiny breaker bar and thin walled socket he had to get for his wife's FJ wheels. Any idea on what that will run me? Looked like a pretty substantial chunk of steel. I guess it could also double as a head knocker if I run into any unsavory characters.

I got a heck of a deal. $410 for all 4 wheels plus $60 for shipping. So $470.00 to my door. Worked out to be $117.50 per.

Course after the lug nuts and the labor to get my old shit ass tires on there looks like about $560 total expense. ($140 per)

Dont most aftermarket wheels need different lugs anyway. I dont think many are able to use stock ones cause they are pretty large and have the larger washers on them.

Yea well, probably so, I'm just new to the whole thing. These are my first aftermarket wheels on any vehicle. Silly me, I just figured they'd come with them. Kinda lame I had to wait for the shop to order them but I think they're going to treat me right.
