Toytec OME lift install... SCARED!

Dang... I am not looking forward to this on Saturday. I have the OME 884 coils, front shocks, AAL and shims, and a diff drop in case it vibrates... and I am very nervous about doing this. how bad is it? anyone in North Central FL wanna help out? I have one buddy that has done the Pro-comp spacer lift, so I feel a little better... but just nervous...

any tips? I have looked around on here, TTORA, and Custom Tacos and found some helpful articles. Not sure if I will compress the coils myself with the Autozone special, or let Pep Boys do it for $20 a coil... Problem being I have to get it all done and aligned this weekend because this is my daily driver so I will probably let Pep Boys do the coils while I come home and do the back end... then go pick those up and install them... (and yes, I have another Truck for transport...

Good idea! Let Pep Boys do it, you don't want to rush on the coils. It can; kill you! Especially if you don't know what you are doing.

Good luck!!

You can always have a reputable tire or custom shop do it. I got a quote for $150 which also includes the alignment. Plus it will only take them a couple hours. I haven't got the lift yet but I did read the instructions off the TOYTEC website. It seems relatively easy but it would take me at least 1 full day. Don't have enough free time to attempt it so I'll be paying someone to install mine.

Did you check out the Florida Chapter on TTORA ? There's a great group of people up in your area.
I'm down in St. Pete myself. I had the same lift put on mine. Everything #884 coils, Alcan AAL, diff drop, rear degree shims, 1" blocks, and OME extended rear shocks and struts, extended stainless steel brake lines. Didn't have a place or the tools to do it myself. I think this lift really makes this truck into a much better riding truck on and off the road.

Good luck on the install you can do it

My buddy just did a lift on his new Dodge Bighorn himself and is giving me shit because I had my tire shop do the spacer lift on the front end of my truck.I didn`t want to mess with the coils and they aligned/warrantied the whole front end that way if anything happens I can just take it back and it`s their baby, buy hey, I did the rear spring packs myself.

I don`t have the tools to mess with the independent front end, I know there`s nothing to it and I`ve seen it done a million times on tv and read all the articles too.

Have fun you`re going to love the lift

thanks guys! I think I'll have Pep Boys do the coils and I'll be OK...

eyedoc- we can still do yours together... I just understand how you're busy (believe me, that's why I am doing it this weekend, because the next few are crazy for me), so we'll get to yours when you have the time, and hopefully I'll have learned on my truck so yours will be easier...

dangit- now I'm lookin at other posts and hoping I don't need control arms to get the castor right... This $280 lift is going to end up costing me over $1g if I need UCAs and after I get my rear shocks (I alreayd have new front OME shocks) and brake line extension...

God I hope it lines up OK... this is not like me to worry about this at all, but this is my daily driver and I am changing jobs soon so there's no an endless supply of money to fix this crap right now... sorry, just venting.

If you go to a good alignment shop they should be able to get you VERY close to factory alignment specs which is good enough for me. I'd reccomend a shop that deals with custom suspension. As for the OME install, it is a cake walk. But definately bring the springs to a shop. My local Mavis shop did it for me and they didn't charge me. I only had to pay the kid that did it $40. After watching/helping this kid swap the springs on a HUGE wall mounted spring compressor, there is no way in hell I'd ever try it with the POS do it yourself spring compressors. $40 bucks and 1/2 hour is much better than 2-3 hours and a missing arm which is what would have happened if I tried it myself.

My alignment shop got my truck within specs after my lift so you shouldn't be too worried about it. As for driving around with the alignment out, you can still do it, but only if it's not VISIBLY out of alignment. But I'd still recommend doing it ASAP, and not driving.

OK, I feel better now... too much caffeine to jump start the day does bad things! HAHAHA It does make me feel better to know that you guys got your alignment very close to spec... I am going to have Pep Boys compress the springs though... for $40 it should save some time and frustration. So, I guess I should alot an entire day for the Diff Drop (if needed), front OME coils/shocks/spacers, and the rear Alcan AAL and shims? That's one thing I'm missing, the instructions for installing the shims... I guess I can find it online somewhere...

Sorry to flip out guys, I'm better now.

Do you guys think Firestone could get the specs close on the alignment since they have the new racks? Other than that, I am clueless for a place to go... used to work for Sears Auto Center, so I know I don't want to go there! eyedoc, anyone is Ocala you'de recommend?
