The one thing I know for sure is we all have are own opinions on what’s the best oil is and when to change it.
Well I am going to leave it up to the professionals.
Actually I'm going to leave it up to the scientist.
Since we all have different driving conditions and a number of different factors like filters, intervals when we change our oils and other things, One brand and one person can’t be right for all of us.
So in comes Blackstone-labs
Blackstone-labs have been doing this for 20+ years.
They test samples of your oil and give detailed results.
And it cost like $20 for a test.
I have not used them yet, but hey, $20 is a drop in the bucket for what I am getting out of my truck.
I will be doing various tests that pertain to my driving, in my conditions, on 2 or 3 brands of oils.
It may be a year from now but I will post up my results.
Im Going to keep useing mobile 1 and im not going to worry about it. I have enough to worry about.
I had mobil one in my civic Si, when I got a hole in my oil pan and drained it completely. I drove about 5 miles (not knowing) with it completly empty. I tore the engine down for some mods and there wasnt a scratch on the cylinder walls or the cams. It drove another 45k (before someone totaled it for me) miles without a single problem. Seeing 9k rpm several times a day it had 110k miles on it.
And im sure any good synthetic will work just fine.

I have never heard of a documented motor failure due to "bad oil" from a major name brand, have you? Put in the oil required by your owners manual and forget about it.
Much to do about nothing

Yeah, damn, lighten up! Some people on here think they're shit is golden and that anyone that doesn't have the same level of knowledge or grammatical format as them is mentally handicapped.
Anways, I've read alot about Blackstone Labs and in fact there was a guy on my Camaro site, LS1.com, that actually used his car to test oil for the entire life of the car. I'm not sure how to find his page (I haven't searched, but it'd probably be easy) but if you do, post a link to it here.

P.S. Blackstone Labs is the best oil testing site on this planet. Everyone should use it, and if you don't you're retarded.

Called URD and intake should be ready no earlier than 10 Jan.
I enjoyed the read. Did a search and did'nt come up with any info so sorry if offended some of you out there.
I dont work for the company, just thought it was intresting and wanted to share.
BTW
I will be testing RED LINE and i will be curious how it matches up with Amsoil and Castrol
Don't mind the grinches. Keep on keeping on.
Those that are more interested in facts rather than emotion will be looking forward to what you bring us.
As for dino vs. synthetic and OEM maint schedule vs. UOA supported extended drain - yeah, lighten up guys. There's enough room for everyone. Some of us can't see any value in changing functional wheels and tires in order to put on 20" chromed wheels and an extra 300 lb of rubber -but all that matters is that the guy who is spending the money sees the value. So, if you want to use dino and change at OEM maint sched intervals -cool. If you want to spend more money on synth because you feel it's an "extra margin of safety" for your engine-fine. And if you want to extend intervals by using UOA to determine what is safe -great. There's room for all -though I do get a little irritated by those that chant a mantra without anything other than "JoeDufus said..."
Looking forward to your results.
As for me, I run dino (at least for now) at the OEM intervals and am doing an occasional UOA just to see what the capabilities are (under my driving). To me, I would have to get 3-4 times the interval in an oil change to justify synthetic +UOA, and with my low mileage/year, I would still want to change because of calendar time.
I use REDLINE for certain applications: Jetski engines for xample. As for car and truck engines MOBIL 1 and a MOBIL 1 filter or PUROLATOR PURE 1 filter is my choice. The PURE 1 is IMHO best best filter for the money. MOBIL 1 filters are top quality but overpriced. Surprisingly the best "bang for buck" is the WAL MART OIL FILTERS!
WORST OIL FILTER?: FRAM BY FAR!!

That oil filter study is a good reference but it's about 6 years out of date. The players have remained the same but most of them are now using different technology.
You need to be careful with PureOne filters. They filter unbelievably but they don't flow very well. A filter that doesn't flow well has a better chance of going into bypass mode. Thus that 99% efficiency rating doesn't do you much good.
Best bang for your buck IMO would be Wix. I prefer something a little more high end. Great deal as long as you plan ahead by about 2 weeks. http://toyotanation.com/forum/t153712.html
