I went to the local gas station to fill up today. When I went to close the outer cover to the gas tank, the lower bracket snapped off. What the hell. Trucks two years old and it appears the bracket had rusted and snapped. I called my dealership and advised them of what happened. I have to take it in next Friday for repairs.
At least it is still under warranty!!! Typical Toyota. Body rusts out and the motor keeps going and going and going.....
Man, I keep seeing all of these posts about problems with these trucks and it makes me really start to wonder if made a mistake. I was washing my truck this evening and washed around the gas door and thought the door seemed a little flimsy. Now you show me your 2 year old trucks gas door is broke.

Doesn't look like it rusted out. Looks like fatigue. Did you ever run it much without it latched?
I think the rust is an after effect. There is no other rust around there. Looks like it just cracked over time.
Man, that blows. I'm starting to wonder about my Tacoma after seeing all your posts. My Focus ran perfectly besised a valve cover gasket which I replaced in 5 minutes (and had a plastic gas door) and my Mazda had uber problems when I got it, but then they were worked out. This truck hasn't given me problems yet, but I'm dreading what will happen first...

Life has a funny way of working out so that you usually get what you expect.
Yes, there are a few legitimate issues with the new Tacos, but a lot of people on this forum seem surprised to find out that their truck isn't perfect.
I am new to this forum, just come over from ChevyTruckWorld.com after trading in my Silverado. And I will tell you, go on their website and you will feel alot better. The forst thing I noticed on this website was the "lack" of problems.
And I would rather have a body problem than a mechanical problem. That is why you see me here.
I started to notice mine doing the same thing(it rusted the same way and started to bend) I oiled it a bunch and I havent had any problems since. the previous owner didnt take the best care of it....

Quit crying, take your skirt off and stop being pussies.
Did I make a mistake, blah blah blah.
You bought one of the better trucks out there on the market and it was in your price range.
NO AUTO MAKER makes a perfect car or truck, Period!!!! If they did there would be no reason to have several brands, new modles, or any reason to buy a new truck every couple or so years of years.
So stop your whining, you already spent your money, you cant return it. If you want to stop visiting any site because some people have issues and post up about them for other sub scribers to be aware of, - YOU DONT BELONG ON THE INTERNET.

They salt even more up here in NY. I noticed about a year ago that the door was getting hard to open and stress was going to the welds where yours broke. Give the gas door a shot of wd40 on the hinges a few times a year. I agree, not the sturiest design, but having the door open smoothly should help prevent this from happening.

Same thing happened to my Tacoma. It went in the shop last week and they ordered the wrong color.
Waiting for the right one to come in now. The dealer said mine was the third one since August in for replacement.

I have had several Toyota's and I am loyal to the brand. They have been great to me. I had a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and spent, on average, $1,300 per year in repair costs. Never have I ever been close to that with Toyota. Even with their "problems" Toyota has a customer for life in me. 2006 Tacoma and 4Runner. Love them both!
