Traveling w/CheckEngine Light On

Well....I posted a while ago about this check engine light problem I've been having for the past month or so and just wanted to follow up with another question. To sum up the problem, my check engine light has been coming on at random times in the past month or so but I have not noticed any performance issues with the truck at all and after four drive cycles or so it goes off and then comes back on at random times. I'm figuring it's just an emissions prob or something but am getting a little nervouse since I'll be traveling about a thousand miles or so to visit family over the holidays. I need to get it into the dealer to get it checked out but just have simply not have the time since the closest dealer to me is about two hours away and I am in the process of moving and finding a new job. I called the dealer today just to pick their brains a bit b/c I was worried about doing any possible damage from not addressing the issue. The dealer told me that it could be a number of things, however, as long as the check engine light isn't blinking I shouldn't be to concerned. Has anyone ever heard of this? Also, by not having the engine scanned as soon as the light came on originally would I be voiding any warranty issues? Thanks for the help.

When the check engine light is blinking, it means that there is a misfire, which would be serious. Otherwise, it could be anything making the light go off.

EDIT:That doesn't mean I wouldn't get it checked out though.

scanning the code won't void the warrenty,,, some parts stores will scan the code for you at no charge.... stop in and ask... After you find out what code is being tripped you can start fixing it...

Not sure if you understood me correctly.....what I was saying or meant to say was would Toyota try to blame me for any possible further damage done by not having the problem addressed as soon as it arose.....

always a possiblity. i would think that toyota would be obligated to scan the ecu and fix the problem provided the truck is still under warranty. if i'm wrong about them scanning it for free then i know autozone scans for free
