Not in the snow belt (bible belt) but lockers are almost useless in the snow...that is on the road anyway. I'd much rather have the LSD to help go in a straight line while losing traction. The locker will make you fishtail.

I don't have the locker mod so no regular driving with that on. The tires are where its at. The rugged trails that came with my Off Road Access Cab were the worst tires I've ever owned. I bought some Cooper Discoverer A/T and they were better but still felt a little uneasy. Finally last week I bought BFG All Terrains and there simply is no comparison. For you people that think there are no problems with the Rugged Trails , I invite you to come to where there is snow and ice and you'll have soiled your seat before you get here.

I agree.....the rugged trails SUCK! They hydroplane, and they wear like crap! I have less than 15K on them and they are more than half beat. I had Wrangler RTS on my last truck and I got 45K out of them.

in the snow, open diff all the way. have tried a lsd, and when both wheels lock up, you have NO lateral traction in the back. once stuck however, gimme a locker!!!

I'm thinking of the bfg all terrains, got the rugged trail and am not impressed..... what size you guys running?

Yeah, why don't they offer both?

But anyway, in the snow I don't think you "need" and LSD. The way I see it there are two scenario's. Its snowing and your driving around, you shouldn't be in 2wd to begin w/, negating the "need" for an LSD.

Next scenario is your driving in snow, in 4wd, maybe off roading or at least off a paved road and you either get stuck or anticipate a tough section of road, where you will then lock your rear diff.

Ideally, you wouldn't have to choose one or ther other.

I haven't ever had the locker, but the limited slip seems to work great in the snow and ice.

I'm suprised that the BFGs are better in the snow than the ATRs. I am about to purchase tires and was gonna go with the ATRs because I was told by multiple people that the AT KOs stink in the rain & snow.

I have the a/t ko's and freaking love them in the rain and snow....mud is where they lack. Makes me wonder how fast some of these people drive in inclimate weather.

I got a set of snow tires for this year. After the first significant snowfall of the year, it is a big difference over the stock tires. Last year, I definitely had more trouble in the snow with the stock tires.

Open diff for most ice and snow covered roads, with the option of a selectable locker when you get stuck and/or need to pull through some really deep snow. Lockers and LSD's cause the ass end of the truck to kick out to quickly on normal ice/snow covered roads.

Oh and the BFG AT's are pretty good in the snow and not bad on icy roads, they're 1000 times better then the stock Rugged Trails that's for sure.
