Selling the Truck, Biking around America

What am I going to get to replace it?

Either a Trek 520 Touring bike, Surly Long Haul trucker, or a Rocky Mountain Sherpa 30.

It'll look like this with all the Panniers and all packed up.

I've decided I'm going to take a looong vacation and ride my bike around (literally) the US. I haven't had any luck finding a good enough job so I'm just going to take this opportunity to get rid of my truck and have no bills at all besides my cell phone. I'll be doing a few Car Audio installs before I leave which should fund the first leg of the trip.

If anyone needs an install, let me know, you got one more month!

I plan to leave mid-end January.

The first leg will be from San Diego Ca. to Jacksonville FL.

Here's the route.

Description of the route.

This will probably take me about 2 and a half months.

Once I reach Florida I'll stay for 3 to 5 weeks at my Aunts house and find some work to pay for the next leg of the trip which will be the Atlantic Coast from FL to New York.

Description of the route.
http://www.adventurecycling.org/rout...st.cfm?pg=more
http://www.adventurecycling.org/rout...=more#virginia

I was born in Brookyln and I still have family that lives in New York so when I get there I will do the same as I did in Fl-Stay for a few weeks and work to pay for the next leg.

I haven't decided what route I will take from New York but I'll have plenty of time to think about it.

I will be doing mostly camping and most of the time stealth camping out of sight from anyone(cheaper, quieter and more adventure).

If anyone wants to donate or offer any supplies I could use I would be more than grateful.

Some things I still need to purchase are a lightweight tent, sleeping bag, first aid equipment, and other general camping equipment, I also need a very lightweight Tablet PC with wireless broadband if anyone knows where to get a good deal on those

I can do at least 4 more installs in the next month so if you need an install let me know asap so we can set things up.

Thanks for taking the time for reading this and thanks for any replies.

I will be keeping a journal on www.crazyguyonabike.com

Have you flipped your lid? Just kidding. That would be sweet to be able to take off like that and have no worries. Call when you go through Phoenix and I will meet up with you and buy you lunch.

Same here. If you come through or near Houston, I'll take you out for lunch (or dinner) and hook you up with some supplies. I can also tune your bike up for you if it needs it.

This is the kind of life changing adventure that you just have to run with (even if you do think you're a little ).

WOW, that's like some Forrest Gump shit right there. That takes some major balls to commit to something like that. I probably wouldn't last 10 miles, must less thousands like your planning. Good luck with that.

LOL, yeah, people will think I'm crazy, that's for sure.

Thanks for the lunch invite! I will definitely let you know.

Thanks for the offer, I will take you up on that for sure.

If anyone else along the way would like to meet up with me or let me camp in their backyard that would be awesome!

I can also offer to tune your sound systems if you got one OR, come to your house and help with an Install.

I'll be averaging about 50 miles a day. About 6 hours a day riding. One rest day per week, probably.

Yeah I have padded bike shorts already.

I'm also going to be getting what is supposed to be the most comfortable bike seat known to man.

The Brooks B17. Like 95 percent of people who tour use these old fashioned leather seats.

Thanks, it appears it is close to the TransAmerica route.

I'm not sure if I'm going to take this route on the way back, although I should because it is the original coast to coast route that everyone takes.
