Just did my Toytec lift and got some minor problems...maybe?
So I just finished my toytec lift today that I purchased from the group buy. I got the option#2 884 front coils and alcan aal in the rear with shims and steel lines. My only issue is that when I install the lines, I kept getting this air sound coming from the right side of the engine bay. I bled all the brakes but that noise still won't go away. I'm gonna try one more time tomorrow.
The other problem is this kind of clapping or crackling sound that might be coming from the rear somewhere. Is this common? When you install the aal's, are you supposed to leave the plastic caps on the end on or take them off? because I left them on and also greased them up real good. I also got the shims on so it shouldn't be making any noise, shouldn't it?
Do you guys have pics of you lift installs of what they look like with some shims on? I think that might help some but I'm not sure until I start retighten everything tomorrow and go for another test drive.
Thanx
Kenny
Oh yea, I'll try to some good pics soon when it doesn't rain

My truck did the same thing, but with lift blocks. It's the springs that are slapping together and making all the noise. Something about when you lift the truck in the rear, it does freaky stuff to the springs. The truck just does not like it. If you look at the front spring mount/hanger, there where the first two leaves seperate and there is a gap...that's where the noise is comming from when the suspension cycles (for me anyway). I know b/c I took a pair of old socks and stuffed them in that gap, and all the noises went away. This is the only cure for this w/o installing an aftermarket spring pack. I tried everything.
After my lift I didn't have the spring clap you're talking about Bill. Which is starting to make me think. What are Toyota's tolerance levels for their manufacturing process? Kind of scary seeing some people that rub, some that don't. Some have vibrations, etc.

Thats exactly right. Same reason half the people (like me) who have AP c/o's that rub the sway bar and half don't. Just enough allowable difference to be off enough to cause issues. Of course, I bought my truck in Jan of 05, so, things could have been changed. But, I'd bet is has alot to do with MMC. LMC and tolerance issues (with the leaf springs). I mean the max material condition compared to the least material condition of a single leaf is anybody's guess really, being that it is not as critical a value as the actual material used. But, that difference in value (whatever it is) is all it needs to act freaky when you mess with it.

Some of these issues can be traced to differences in models/sub models. Maybe the sport edition has a bigger sway bar than the offroad? Sport models have rub issues with calipers with some after market wheels while they fit offroads. Spring packs maybe different on AC models vs. DC, and the OR vs. Sport and LB vs. SB. Plus there maybe design changes in year models and unnoticed mid production changes. What am I saying? list your make model sub model and build date to help with issues like this. If it's not any of that then maybe Toyotas got some build issues like Bill pointed out. Good Luck

So after 2 days of driving my truck and bled my new brake lines over again, everything works pretty good now. The clapping sound in the rear all of a sudden went away so no more noise back there. Thanks Harry for the pics. It helped a ton. So what I need now is longer shackles because I just feel that it might be a bit more safe than how it is now with it tightened enough where it stops flat with the nut and everything should be good to go.
I get my wheels put on next week and then I will take some pics. Woo Hoo!
Again, Thanks to all you guys for helping a fellow TN member out. If it wasn't for me lurking on this site within the entire year that I have owned this truck and then joining it, I don't think I would have even wanted to touch my truck just for the simple fact that I don't know jack squat about trucks. You guys are awesome and think I might be able to ring out one teeny tiny tear drop out right now for this very emotional moment we're having. Maybe, just maybe.

Great observation. That would be my guess as well. The sway bars are different (bigger on the sport), the springs rates on each model are different, and the wheels of the sport and offroad are also different, the sports sit 6mm closer to the UCA for those that want to know.
