One reason why Frontiers are not better than Tacomas
When I was in the market for a new pickup I test drove the Frontier several times. The first time I took out a Fonti with a manual trans. I came up to a stop light and I might have stalled, or the engine just died, not sure. But I pushed the clutch in all the way and nothing, totally dead. The truck is electrically dysfunctional.
I tell the sales guy I'll take it, in a joking manner. We get out and push it into the nearest business. The sales guy then calls for backup. The help arrives with a jumper box, but it's of no help. We leave the new truck there and head back to the dealer.
The battery might of had a bad cell or something, so I'm not saying the Frontier is a bad truck solely from this experience. Just a funny story.

When it comes to the Tacoma Vs. Frontier fight your either a Die-Toyota fan(me) or a Fronty fan (whoever) there is no in between if your thinking Frontys are better go with a Fronty I personally have had 3 Toyota trucks and will not buy any other brand truck period, most pro Fronty people like them because they can save a couple of bucks on the price compared to a Taco, you get what you pay for.

Not necessarily. I would take either truck to be honest. The newer frontier is light years ahead of the truck it replaced and is now every bit the Tacoma's equal. I've had the opportunity to spend some time in the new Nissan trucks, (Xterra and Frontier) and both are exceptional offerings.
I love my Toyota's but I'm certainly not a fanboy. Having driven the new Tundra and GMC for instance I like the GMC better. When GM releases its new smaller displacement 4.5L diesel next year it's game over for the Tundra IMO, that is unless Toyota surprises us with a small diesel option of their own.
I did choose my taco over the Frontier, mainly based upon looks alone. I just don't like the styling on the Frontier. I considered a Titan, which I like, but the interiors have a rep for falling apart pretty quickly and my in laws' does look pretty worn, for a 4-year-old truck.
In fairness to Nissan, I've had 2 Maximas that lasted more than a decade and 100Kmi each and I used to have a '90 hardbody 4wd V6 that I beat the daylights out of and had little to no trouble with, except a toasted torque converter at 110Kmi. I think Nissan builds a great product that is perhaps a hair lower in quality than a Toyota, but they cost alot less. I'll probably own another Nissan in my lifetime.
their coming out with a 4.5L diesel.... ur right about the tundra, i hope they sell as many as they can this year. Very happy i bought the taco now, i woulda felt like an idiot if i bought the 5.7L tundra, and then a year later, a 4.5L diesel came out. GM is the only american truck i would buy. I have a 93, and only problems i've had is the alternator, and starter, and I think something with the A/C. Still is a great truck, and this is what I use to travel all over florida in.

Nissan will have a desiel option for the Titan by 09 as well. Nissan reportedly will buy V8 diesel engines from International Truck and Engine Corp.
About the GM 4.5
"General Motors announced it will build a turbocharged 4.5-liter Duramax clean diesel V8 making in excess of 310 hp and 520-lb-ft of torque for use in light-duty trucks and Hummer H2s built after 2009.The engine will have four valves per cylinder and dual overhead cams. The heads will be aluminum with integrated manifolds. The turbocharger will have variable vanes and an intercooler. The new, stiffer block will be made of Compact Graphite Iron, which is heavier than aluminum but lighter than grey cast iron, GM said.
The engine will offer a 13-percent reduction in carbon-dioxide emissions compared to a comparable gasoline engine and “at least” a 90-percent reduction in nitrogen oxides and particulates."

The frontier defintely has a much better bed then ours, as I have stated before their bed on our truck would be awesome. The tie down and rail system is much easier to use and stronger as well. It all ready comes with a non skid liner stock and of course a much stronger tailgate. The engine is not nearly as smooth and the interior feels as if it would fall apart much more quickly. Europe and Asia have been pushing diesels for years and have had great success. They are clean burning, powerful and effecient. I had the oppurtunity to drive a HiLux for six months while I worked out of the embassy in Cambodia. If we could get that diesel in our trucks I would be very happy. If they ever offer one on the Tacoma or Tundra I will be the first to trade in!
