Today when I got into my truck, I started it and about 5 seconds later it made this really funny noise under the hood. So I immediatly shut it down and waited a minute and started back up and it did it again so I raise the hood and notice some smoke coming from what looked like the upper catalaytic converter. The noise kinda sounded like something grinding, the truck only has 3900 miles on it. Any ideas?

Beast was that the first time you have heard the noise too? I started mine a while later and it was fine, I wish I knew what it was. I think i am going to call the dealer on mon. and see if i can get it in, i figure i got a warranty, might as well use it.

u know if they cant reproduce the noise, they wont do anything. if thats the first time u heard it, chances are, they probably will not hear it. u got a 36000 mile warranty, when it gets worse, take it in, but ur just gonna waste ur time at the dealer if u only heard it once.

Does it happen after you start driving? or does the sound happen when you are standing still? The ABS has a self check system that makes a noise after about 15 feet or so of driving.
It did it about 5 seconds after start up. it was just idling. I am gonna go out in a bit and check it again, it has only happened twice, i will keep you posted.

ok it does it when the A/C comes on, it is loud and has never did it before, it does it again when you turn the A/C off. Any ideas? I am convinced it is something to do with the A/C. Have any of you experienced this, or is it just me, if it keeps it up it is going in.

Ya first time for me. It was after pulling my boat for like a hour, so that may have had something to do with it.
ok, i talked the dealer today, they want me to bring it in tomorrow, i will let you know how it goes. wish me luck, hopefully they will give me something to drive.

it happens to me everytime i turn on the A/C regardless if it is at startup or it has been running for an hour. something is not right, well see what the dealership says tomorrow.

what a total waste of time and gold (i mean gas).
