Which oil filter to use?

Hello All,
I traded in my 2000 Frontier today for a 2007 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 with the 2.7L I4 engine. Before I left the dealership I stopped by the Parts counter and asked for an oil filter for this truck. They sold me a Toyota 90915-YZZG1 oil filter for $7.
When I got back to my place I decided to check the net and see what kind of price I could find on this filter. At no place that I checked did any of these establishments (including some other Toyota dealerships) list the 90915-YZZG1 as the correct filter. Almost all listed the 90915-YZZD1 as the correct filter. At least one (I forget where) listed the 90915-YZZD3 as the correct filter.
Before I order a case of oil filters I was hoping someone could help me understand what the differences are between these filters. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

The G1 is the updated filter part number. I think the D3 is the old stock number.

TrdParts4u lists D1 as the correct filter for your truck. The D3 is for the 4.0L V6.

I've been through this problem before, and I'm glad to help. The G1 supercedes the D1. I bought a case (10) of D1 for $39 from trdparts4u.com. The D3 is for the v6.

I'm switching to AC Delco. I've heard that the "WIX" filters are good also?

Here's some reading you might find interesting:

Also I picked up a "filter Mag" form NAPA autoparts, they were on sale the race version was $41.00.

I'll post pictures if anyone is interested?

I think Mobil 1 is top of the line at a local auto store, but amsoil is top of the line. I use mobile 1 and oil is clean as anything after 3000 miles. I wouldn't be worried to go over those 3000.

I have always run a KN Gold Filter with Mobil 1. My buddy ran synthetics in his 85 EFI 22RE. It has 340,000 miles and still runs great.

Wix is a good filter. IMO, the only really bad filter is Fram. They dont have as much filtering material as other filters.
Id stick to OEM if it were me, even if it costs a little more.

You should also consider a higher end filter like Mobile 1 or you could also go with the KN Gold if you plan on going to synthetic oil. If your going to just use conventional, you can stick with the filters from toyota.

Just my 2cents.
