So I've got this Police PA system - straight out of a cop car that my brother "acquired" a few months back. I'm looking at putting it in my 07 this weekend, but don't know how to wire it. Where do I run the wires to get the speaker under the hood? And how would I tap into a power source to hardwire it?
Pop the hood, and figure out where to run the wires and mount the stuff. Then you need to get a volt meter. Everybody should own a volt meter. Then pop the fuse box and look around. There's a big lug in the top left of the under-hood fuse box. This is a good place to tap into 12v+ for medium to small size accessories, like a siren. Be sure your gadgets are properly fused. Get some wire ties, wire loom, wire cutters, and get to work. You'll figure it out.
Try the manufactorer's website. Depending on how old of a model it is they might have wiring diagrams right on the site. Not knowing what brand it is I cant tell you for sure that they will. From there just base that info on the layout of your truck.
The brand is "federal signal corporation" and the model is PA300 the fire engine horn will be putting all you train horns to shame... I'll let you know how it ends up, and I'll try to take some pics for ya fellas. Now all I have to do is get my headlights to alternate and get some blue and red strobes put in my grill
I'll stay with train horns. I like the sound better. And I'm pretty sure a real train horn would beat a real fire engine horn. Someone should do a side by side test.
