Digital clock/Electrical Issue

I had a sunroof installed on my truck last week. Ever since, I have noticed that the clock is significantly dimmer. It has been raining all week here and I have been driving with the lights on. I can barely see my clock when the headlights are on. When they are off, I can see the clock, but it doesn't seem as bright as before.

Could the wiring of the sunroof affected the clock in some way? Could the sunroof be taking more electricity from the truck, thereby causing the clock to be dimmer?

Please give me your input. I know nothing about how all of this works.

no. that's the first thing I checked. The dimmer switch doesn't even affect the clock.

Lol, thought so but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Can you contact the shop that installed it to get some info about where they may have tapped into your stock electrical harnesses? Depending on where they spliced it, the added load of the sunroof could cause the clock to dim a bit.

Is the light coming in through the sunroof washing out the clock numbers? Try covering the sunroof and see how the numbers look.

Does this truck have any high/low clock brightness settings the automatically adjust for day/night conditions or operate based on headlights lights on or off? Clock brightness setting could be wired into the headlight switch, hence the change in brightness with lights being on.

The clock brightness should not depend on electrical load. If the lights are dimmer, return it to the installer. They could have miss wired something.

From the wiring diagram

Hazard Sw / Clock has no inputs for dimming specifically, but there is a step down in intensity. It's fed from 7.5A Acc (Acc), 7.5A Dome (B), and 10A Tail (Ill+), and grounded (E).

B is constant power to control the clock (keep time)
Acc is power for indication, on at Acc or On

Ill+ is the thing that dims the clock when the headlights are on, should see an obvious step down when the lights are turned on.

Thus, I suspect its just the excess light from above. I can barely see my clock 90% of the time in daylight anyway.

Edit, fixed the Ill+ comments

Ill+ is probably the light for the hazard switch, no mention of it in the wiring diagram.

Yeah. Now I feel stupid. I didn't even think about the light above affecting the clock.

I will have to test that theory out. Thanks
