^he had the jeep jacked-up with a hi-lift and had his head between the tire and the fender. Then the jack slipped out and pinned his head in that small space above the tire in the first pic.
That's why you use jack stands or some other brace with ANY jack... Not just a hi-lift.
Hi-lift get a bad rep I think because they lift higher than any other (you don't see 300lb guys getting pinned by floor jacks very often do you?) so they're inherently more unstable. DUH! You're lifting something up to 48" or 60" on a base the size a postcard. WTF do you expect to happen? My floor jack only raises up my 12 inches, and has a 10" wide, 18" long base (give or take. I'm guessing here) so its several times more stable than a hi-lift. And yet people are still trained to use jack stands with them. Go figure!
Anyone relying on a single point of failure before sticking their head under something deserves what they get. Hell, jam a 2x4 in there.... get some rope and tie the fucking jack to something so it don't tip over... but do SOMETHING with it!
I used a hi-lift to push an 8' 2x4 up against my car port roof to push it back up so I could replace some braces. I tied the 2x4 to the jack so it didn't slide off, and ran two guide lines off the jack to hold it steady. That sucker stayed there for 2 days and never moved!

So, I guess none of you guys have ever done something stupid and gotten hurt, right?
People make mistakes. And learn from them. What if this guy was stuck out in the middle of nowhere and only had the jack to fix his shit and get out?
He had been checking the jack every time he got under the truck except for the last, and it bit him. His only crime here is trusting the jack.
And, I love how he has built a rig that I'm sure way less than half of the assholes in this thread casting stones could build...yet one mistake makes him a moron, oxygen thief or whatever. Be careful, karma is a bitch.
I notice some of you are really quick to label folks with the dumbass moniker...a little insecurity in your own intelligence, maybe?

well said. I don't get the name calling. Though, from some folks, it does not surprise me at all...
