HID Kits

I want my taco to have some nice hid headlights but am not sure if i have to get a hid kit(bulbs, ballasts, ignitors) or if i can get a nice hid beam with just hid bulbs, thoughts please!

First of all, a search would have yielded plenty of info on this subject. Secondly, yes you need to have a full kit. HID bulbs will not work without ballasts. Ballasts are like amplifiers, they pump up the 12v signal to an extremely high voltage in order to ignite the xenon gases in the bulbs. Bulbs alone will not suffice.

the research ive done has pretty much told me to get a kit but my friend said using bulbs might just work. doh!

You can't use HID bulbs, but there are other kinds of bright bulbs you can buy

You can buy bulbs that have the HID colors on ebay, but nowhere near as bright.
