Ever lose a plastic cap from the rear bumper?

I lost one of these caps somewhere along the way. They're on top of the rear bumper under the license plate (there's two of them). I noticed some time ago it spun freely and seemed a bit loose but dismissed it. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it in case you wanted to check yours. Off to the parts shop I go... (Toyota will probably want $50 for them knowing how proud they are of their plastic parts )

I just spoke to the local parts dept. They said it'd be covered under warranty since it simply fell off. They'll surprise you every once in a while... I fully expected to have to pay for them. Maybe someone from corporate put a boot in their ass regarding customer service. Maybe I just got lucky and got connected to a guy that gave a shit.

They also said there's some sort of seal that goes under them as well (mine doesn't have any seals... didn't come with any). He said they'd order me some of those as well. I guess they were in a good mood this morning.

Those things are cheap thin plastic.

I had one come off, at some point on a long trip. So I just took the other one off to make it look like its supposed to be that way. It came off way to easy.

I might go get new ones, depending on how much toyota wants for them. Not really that big of deal for me.

Yeah, I've lost several and have one missing now. My problem is I step on them getting in the bed of the truck and they won't stay with you long if you do that. I stopped at the body shop that did the rear repairs and the writer noticed one was missing. He ordered a couple for me....thanks for the reminder to stop by and pick them up.

I think I might try some sort of adhesive caulk (nothing I can't rip off in case they crack though) on top of the bolt head to help them stay in place this time.

Yeah when I bought my truck i noticed both were there and I spun them around and noticed they were loose. A few weeks later one is missing.

So it stayed on for 28,000 miles, then the first 100 miles i have the truck one falls off.

My truck was under warranty but I just went up to the parts department and asked for one. Figured something like that wouldn't be covered, figures. It was under $10 for sure, I think someone mentioned like $7 or so earlier in the thread.
