bed outlet sucks (or is it just me).

Last month, I was at the track and I was trying to run two Chicken Hawk tire warmers. The power pulsed the whole time. They would never come up to temp because they weren't getting power consistantly. Is there a fix for this? Or is the truck just useless as a generator.

i've ran drills and saws off mine no problem, even ran a hair dryer. never glitched once.

i had the truck idling though, not sure if that makes a difference.

The load was probably WAY too big for the bed outlet, it can only provide 400watts max. Heating elements normally pull a lot more then that.

ya Dont those warmers for bike tires draw like 500-600W each? If you were running two at once, that is waaay to much for the bed outlet to handle.

Says here front is 550W, rear is 600W, so ya, thats way too much for the stock inverter.

There are some threads on here that show people putting in 1000W+ inverters in their trucks. That may be the ticket for you? Check the DIY sticky, I believe the thread(s) about higher wattage inverters are linked there

I love mine. Here it is powering a laptop during new equipment training at Ft. Benning. We develop and build the Anti-Tank weapons for the Army and the laptop with briefing material was dead. Plugged it into the bed outlet and it ran great!!

400W at idle 100W running. It's written on the flap you have to flip up when plugging something in.

Voltage X Amperage = Watts

Google "ohms wheel"

Can that be supplied in an "under bumper" or "roof rack" mount for the tacoma. Even without ammo, it should keep the road clear in front of you.

And just to stay on topic, the built in outlet is kinda useful, mostly not. Gotta remember to turn it back on everytime you stop the truck.

Tire warmers pull too much power. A front and two rear warmers pull just under 1000watts, so a single front and rear pull in excess of the 400 watt max for the bed outlet.

You'll need to run a generator for the tire warmers. Alternatively you could run the rear warmer on high for about 40 minutes off the bed plug then unplug it (but leave the warmer around the tire) then run the front warmer for about 15 minutes on high. Most trackdays run their sessions on the hour so you could pretty easily get into a routine with alternating the front and rear warmers.
