Adding Power Locks

I have a Regular Cab prerunner so power locks wasn't an option. Is this easy to add? Any guides or anything like that?

I think you'll need the whole keyless entry.

you don't need keyless entry, but you might as well add that as well while you're at it. any car audio shop can do those installs. it shouldn't be too hard to find a shop that can do it all for around $100.

So I should expect them to add power locks and keyless for around $100? That seems cheap

on a tacoma door, a car audio shop cannot add the aftermarket acuators. You have to use OE acuators from toyota because they work on a cable system and are incorporated with the door latch.

Well anyone have any part numbers or idea what this will cause? Here is how I want the locks to work:

Turn the lock and the door lock on the other side of the car either locks or unlocks. I do not want to add any buttons or anything like that.

I would also like to add keyless, I really need some guidance on this one.

I just bought a Tacoma reg cab prerunner and I too would be interested in knowing how to install power locks.

If I may ask, how did you learn that the acuators work on a cable system and are incorporated with the door latch? Experience? Haynes? Is this a DIY project - after I bought the parts from toyota?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I bought an aftermarket keyless entry system for about $120 that is cable lock compatible. Installed it myself in about 4hrs. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the link.

That sounds like a reasonable price. Did it come with instructions or did you do it all by feel?

It came with instructions but you need to think about the location of the actuators before you begin. I wish (in retrospect) I had taken pics before I reassembled everything.

know about cable system because toyota is mainly what i work on for my job.

I did not realize there is any cable compatible kits. Good to know. Good price for the kit, acuators alone are probably that much from dealer.

I had an aftermaket alarm installed and had the shop leave extra wire in the kick panels so i can run them through the doors when i get a pair of actuators.

Here's how I mounted the actuators

http://lh6.google.com/willcotton/RrE...jpg?imgmax=576
Used 1/8 aluminum as mounting straps and self drilling screws to attach them after i taped it all out to check alignment

Tried to show how I Bent the linkage rod so that it was parallel to the cable
