'07 Tacoma Dash

Hey guys, I just picked up my '07 Tacoma the other day. I'm a bit of a Do-It-Yourselfer, as I've been building cars my entire life. I want to hook up a sub and amp into the system, and I was wondering if anyone has attempted to pull one of these dashes apart yet. Any sort of advice would be stupendous, as I do not want to break this thing. Thanks guys, it's appreciated.

07RedTaco,

From a fellow do-it-yourselfer, I really recommend purchasing the repair manuals from the 1-800 number in the back of your Owners manual. They are very detailed and I find them invaluable. There are three volumes + the schematics avaliable. Volume III covers disassembly of the interior. They don't come cheap, $150 a pop and $80 for the schematics. I've bought vol. II & III so far and find myself thumbing through them quite often.

You can get a lot of good info and ideas on these forums but for disassembly of your brand new truck, you just can't beat the folks that made the vehicle.

Thanks, I haven't even fully read through the owner's manual yet, so those numbers would've taken me a while to find. Thanks for the heads-up. I found out how to get the radio out already, but those manuals will definitely come in handy for everything else.

Take a look at the online FSM at it's new (temporary) home

http://www.*******.com/fsm/05+/index.html
Here is the instrument panel removal section

http://www.*******.com/fsm/05+/data/...06ta/06000.pdf

I recently did this, it took me 70 minutes for disassembly and a bit more for reassembly. I was running a new power wire to my HU, seriously the stock one is 20 gauge!

There are a lot of parts, but it's very simple for the most part. You just need an 8, 10 and 12 mm socket, and a tiny screwdriver or something for prying.

Two tricks:
To get the center console carpet up, stick a safety pin in it and pull up.
To remove the hood release latch, pry the heck out of the little tab, then the whole thing slides toward the front of the truck.
Also, it would help if you have an assistant when you finally remove the big dash piece at the end. It's a little tricky maneuvering it around the steering column, meanwhile it's heavy at the other end because of the passenger air bag unit. But it's doable by yourself; I did it.

Have fun!

it is connected to the front part of the center console so in order to remove it you have to remove the entire center console. the first thing is to remove the cup holders, then remove the 4 screw wit ha #2 phillips bit, then remove the bottom part of the center storage at the back end of the consoel, underneath it are 2 10mm bolts holding it down. from there you should be able to lift up the rear section of the console, then the front part of the console should just pull out as well, but i have only delt with my 06 standard cab, but i hope this gives you a good head start, good luck my man!
