Colorado: Rampart Range Road

don't know if i'll get the answer i need but what the heck

ok so about 15 years ago I wen't camping somewhere off Rampart Range Road...i know i know...its a long road, but it was near the northern end...anyway this camping spot was a bit off the road in a small valley and had a nice granite rock to 4x4 up, for the life of me (I spent all day Sunday looking for it) I can't seem to find it. Anyone know what i'm talking about?

Thanks.

Dunno ... but if you get really desperate, try using the satellite images at Google Maps. If you can follow the road on screen, you might be able to make out the granite rock.

Google Maps - Rampart Range Rd, Woodland Park, CO

It's not a pin-point answer, but maybe it'll help...

Good luck!

Don't know the spot you're looking for but I know Rampart Range Road, but my wife would rather we didn't.

We went on a nice wedding anniversary weekend to a B&B near Woodland park and I saw RRR on the map leading straight to Garden of the Gods and decided to take the Jeep Cherokee down. My wife hates dropoffs and no guard rails and was freaking out the whole decent.

yup, i did that and thought i'd found it, but when i took the trip, it wasn't it...well actually it could've been it, but it had been chained off, at the time i didn't think about walking further to check it out...but now i'm thinking since its been so long, they may have added that in the time being.

Was it on/near the Dakan Road trail? I don't know the rock you describe, but Dakan is a pretty popular place to wheel. Rampart is huge tho - could be anywhere.....

sounds to me like Gordon Gulch area. long granit slabs in a small valley on the east side of the road. no official camp sites but has a big turn-around area.
