Steel Brake Lines

I've heard many owners complain about the spongines from thier brakes, and mine leave something to be desired in initial power while towing a trailer. Has anyone tired stainless steel wraped brake lines? I use them on motorcycles all the time to cut down on the expansion of the stock rubber lines and provide more power per mm of brake lever travel, but I was wondering if anyone has tried them on thier truck? I searched and found many threads complaining about the brake feel but only one post about SS lines.

They will make the squishy pedal go away.

There is a member here named Adospeed (I think) that works for Goodridge. He's full of good info on this subject.

i put stainless lines in the rear, but i didn't notice any difference in pedal feel. but i only changed the rear lines for more suspension travel. so far, i don't have any complaints about the braking power or feel, so i haven't looked into swapping the front lines

This is a quote from Adospeed about mis-matching rubber and SS brake lines, and subsequently, why I went all the way around instead of just the rears.

You can take the Goodridge part number for the stock height vehicle and then simply add + "inches"over stock.
Example : 24104 + 4" (thats not the correct part number, just using it for an example.

You can then special order them through a Goodridge dealer.

(yes I do Tech support at Goodridge)

Wheelers just re-sells the Goodridge kit. I have em. I hope to install them in a couple weeks.

To illiminate the sponginess need to replace both the front and the back. If you replace just back then your stock front hoses will still expand. Getting SS front and rear lines will illiminate the weak spots.

If the braking system uses two different master cylinders like on some vehicles then there won't be as negative an effect from just switching one end, but it they run off the same master then you'll stress the rubber ones out without gaining much benifit from the steels.

I have the goodridge 4" extended lines, and they definitely helped with the brake feel. No more spongy brake pedal, and it also got rid of the abs chatter.

Yeah, they are money well spent, IMO.
