Scratch question Grrrrrrrrrrr.

So, ive had her for 3 weeks now, and some POS LOSER with nothing better to do than destroy other peoples property decides to take a sharp object and scratch from the front fender to the antennae! It kills me, i keep her in a garage, park a 1/4 mile from anyone everywhere i go, it just f***ing pisses me off. What can i use to rub it out , its not that deep, seems like just a surface scratch. I know, you have to expect these things, but it still irks me, A stray rock on a highway, an accidental scratch, ok, but man when its deliberate..... Can i get it out without compounding the whole damn thing?

I know where you're comming from...makes you just want to break their arms so that they cannot f?ck up anybody elses stuff. Some people are just jealous of other's accomplishments. As for the scratches, post up some pics so we can assess the damages and give advice as to repair.

OT but a funny story...

I was at walmart the other night, and as I was leaving (backing out), this group of HS/college kids was walking behind my truck. They were looking at me and walking very slowly. I was watching them thru the rearview. Just as they passed the rear of my truck, I started to back out. One of the guys syas, "thanks for looking, asshole." I returned with, "I saw you, dumbass. Thanks for taking your sweet time getting out of my way." Then another one of the guys says something to the effect of I better watch ny mouth or they would scratch my pretty truck for me. So, I stopped the truck, got out and kicked the shit out of the bed with my foot. (It was already dented in that spot, but they couldn't tell, I guess) I said, "you think I give a fuck about scratches?! Hold on a minute and let me get my bat and I'll show you how to damage a car." And I opened the back door and started to reach inside.

They ran away for some reason.

I would have loved to seen that. As i look closer. its from the headlight all the way to the antennae, somebody just walked by and held something against the truck as the walked.
Unf***ING believable.

Maybe they thought you were someone else? Last week, my friend came back from the gym to find his G35 with a broken window and screwdriver holes punched 3 body panels. There were 2 other black G35s in the same lot at the time....

Scratch remover

They just did a consumer report on scratch remover products on the local news. They referenced "Consumer reports". Here is the local blurb about it. Looks like Quixx is best for deeper scratches.

Keeping the new ride looking new

Nothing makes you feel quite as good as riding around in a brand new car, and nothing can wipe that smile off your face faster than a scratch!

Today Action 13 consumer reporter Jeff Ehling took a look at several scratch removers to see which ones work the best. Consumer Reports tested several and found all of them live up to the claim of removing a scratch as long as the area is not too deep. However, CR discovered "Quixx High Performance Scratch Remover" does a great job with deep scratches. It costs $21 a bottle.

Now for some Consumer Repots scratch prevention tips, always wash your car before waxing as that removes scratch happy dirt and use a cotton cloth when washing you car, not a synthetic one.

Also:

Don’t slide objects across the paint. Even grocery bags can cause scratches.
If you wash a car by hand, don’t use an abrasive cloth such as one with synthetic fibers. CR suggests a clean sponge or sheepskin mitt.
Hose off any dirt or grime before washing, and frequently rinse the sponge or mitt in clean water. If it drops on the ground, don’t use it until it has been thoroughly cleaned.
Dry the paint with a clean chamois or terrycloth towels.
Wax using microfiber towels or soft all-cotton cloths, such as diapers.

Good luck.

You can remove that scratch if it is not too deep by polishing. Read this great info by Pb

You can't actually remove a deep scratch. You can only help hide it. A scratch is missing paint. The only way to truly fix it is to repaint it.

A scratch remover is just polish. When you polish you are thinning down the paint to get down below the scratch. Polishing also knocks off the sharp edge of the scratch that is reflecting light. When you polish you are smoothing out the edge, which makes it not reflect light as good, and makes it less visible.

A buffer and polish is the best way to fix a light scratch. Meguiars ScratchX is pretty good if you have to do it by hand, but it won't be as good as a buffer with real polish.

If the scratch is down to primer or metal then don't bother with polish. You need touchup paint or a body shop repaint.

Thanks guys
PB i read your detailing thread and it was incredible. I really looked at it last night, it has no raised edges, i ran my nail over all of it, it is at least 3 feet long, and felt nothing, it seems to be more of a top layer scratch, i dont think it want into the primer either, you can see it in the sun, but you have to look for it in the shade, i will try the Meguiars scratch x first, if that doesnt do it, I will have to buy the tools to buff polish it out . Im just cooling off about this a day later. I'll let you know after the weekend how it comes out, as i can only wash the truck on Sunday with the water restrictions down here.
