Locking Diff Problems - Locked in 2wd?

Taco is a 2005 TRD Off Road Access Cab 4x4 automatic with ~ 32 000 miles.

I used my locker today - everything was normal. Engaged and disengaged fine (according to the dash lights anyways). Approximately 200 feet of driving after disengaging the locker and back in 2wd, I noticed the locker light was illuminated, but very dim. Within the next 100 feet it came on bright red, followed by the ABS light - truck is back in 2wd remember! I stopped and spun the tires, yep both spun. Turned the wheel full lock and gassed it - both spun.

I proceeded to switch back to 4H, then into 4L, and locked the diff again. I moved maybe 10 feet forward, reversed 10 feet, unlocked the diff, drove another 10 feet, switched to 4H, drove another 10 feet, then switched back to 2H. Everything seemed normal - no lights.

Approximately 100 feet further down the road, the diff lock light illuminated dimly again, comes on solid, followed by the ABS light. WTF??

The next hour was spent trying every "correct" procedure in the world to disengage the locker - with the same problem occouring each time thereafter. Turned the truck on/off, pulled the 4wd fuse, waited 10 mins, etc - nothing worked.

Just as a side note, the ABS does function as soon as the locker is disengaged, but doesn't function after the ABS light illuminates.

I remember a couple of days ago someone mentioned something similar and having to "trick" the truck into thinking it was going downhill or something...

Any help appreciated as my dealer is busy and I can't get an appointment anytime soon.

Thanks

You've got the locker anytime mod without doing anything....sweet!!

The only other advice I can say would be to slowly repeat the sequences you mentioned going in both forward and reverse. Also make sure you windows are rolled down, so you can actually hear the locker engage and disengage. If you don't hear the locker engaging/disengaging, it's POSSIBLE that the locker motor itself is having issues. If all else fails, visit the dealer.

32.000 miles is still eligible for warranty with electrical stuff like that. tow it to the dealer and let them deal with it, or if u can drive it, do that.
