Huge Tailgate TSB News

I had parts on order from the tailgate TSB and I just hear from my service advisor that they couldn't get the parts in because Toyota stopped manufacturing the supports. I have heard something about that on here I believe. According to them the reinforcements weren't quite up to par.

Here is the big part. (Directly from Totyota) There will be a new tailgate TSB where the complete tailgate will be replaced with a modified stronger design. She told me that since I am in the system as soon as the new TSB is released I will be getting a new tailgate! Straight from Toyota - this new TSB is supposed to be released around December. (We know how those dates go. Could be sooner or later.)

BTW, I don't have a damaged tailgate. I just kept pushing them on the fact that I wanted this performed as a preventative measure before the whole tailgate was damaged and needed to be replaced. Now I am getting a new tailgate anyway.

Cool. Hope that really happens. I guess I will get on the list when I go in for rear springs.

Wow thats good news, I imagine they'll require a damaged gate to replace it if an order hasnt already been placed...Pretty expensive repair.

Hope they don't run into a problem with paintmatching since they all will have to be painted when they come from the factory most likely. I know major body panels don't come from the factory pre-painted. MAybe these will.

Good luck guys!

biggest problem with toyota dealerships:

They never have the parts for TSBs. you'd think they'd keep an abundance of those parts because they're a TSB... but NOOOOOO

(sorry, just ranting. still waiting on the clutch TSB for over a month now)

Just got my tailgate fixed 2 weeks ago. Maybe I won't be gentle with it (after the ne TSB comes out), and get new new tailgate.

It's for reasons like this that I'm in no hurry to take my '07 in for either the tailgate or leaf springs TSB's. I have plenty of warrentee time left, don't haul heavy stuff much and don't plan on bending the tailgate. I'm waiting until sometime in 2008 and I'll have all those issues resolved at once. My fear is, those who get the TSB for the tailgate now, will not have the opportunity to get the newly-designed one once it becomes available. I'm waiting, until Toyota figures out what they really want to do.
