Anyone know the best place to get the OEM Taco Roof Rack shipped? Looking for the best price. There is a seller on Ebay selling a OEM Double Bar Roof Rack but its not the same as the one I see on our Tacos. Is it?
Is this OEM one worth getting or a better after market one? I really like the nice complete look of the OEM one. It makes the TACOS imo look full from the side view. Plus I snowboard all the time....IF we ever get snow again in SOCAL.
Here is the link to the Ebay one I saw. Is this the same one?
It is an OEM. The cross bars are normaly stowed on the rack when not in use (to minimize witd resistance). I have the same rack on my DCab. Weight limit on these is 200#, IIRC.
^Do you recommend these? Should I get aftermarket instead. All I want to do is put some snowboards up there and make the TACO look full from the side view. How is the install on these? Thanks
That one on ebay is OEM but is showed in an open position, to close it, you just unlock the bars and swing them to the sides, takes 1 min to do it and it's really cool set up.
The price seems like a fair price IMO.
I've seen 2 dodge sport trucks with the Toyota OEM roof rack adapted
I love my OEM rack and use it a lot to carry the items I don't want to be scratched while hauling stuff in the back, just mak sure you use some pads to protect your gear and I found out that a set of 1" x 12ft long straps from harbor freight at 1.99ea +s&h is the best way to go.

For your purposes it will work fine. It is a nice design. The non-movable "foundation" has a few eyelets for additional tiedowns. Stowable crossbars minimize wind noise/gas consumption.
I've heard that there beefier racks out there, but I've never seen one in person, so I can not comment on them. I bought my truck ised with 15K miles, wiuth the rack already installed, and I am glad to have it.
Check trdparts4u.com (toyota of Dallas) for price comparison for OEM.
As far as install, as I understand it, there are a couple of screws and some black silicon involved, pretty easy, maybe a 2-beer project .
I couldnt stand my OEM rack. I feel it takes away from the look of the truck, gives it more of a suv look. Also after having mine on for two years i noticed that when i removed the rack i had a nice set of lines in the clear coat where dirt and debris had got it there. I might look into a thule or yakima in the future. On another note, i removed my westin tube steps and wesin bullbar. I made the typical mistake of over accessorizing my truck.
I ordered my OEM racks from a dealership in North Carolina. I'm looking at the invoice and I paid $235 ($203 for the rack, $32 for shipping) shipped. I can't say the service was the best. In fact, I'll never buy from them again. And they have some tempting pricing. I guess they can shave off a few bucks due to the help they hire.
The racks came with the shittiest packing possible. It looks like they found a box that was a couple inches too short in length and stuffed the roof racks into it. So basically one side of one of the racks was hanging out of the box. In their defense, they did try to try to cover up the hole with SCOTCH tape. You figured any shipping area would have at least some PACKING tape or something that covers better than an inch a strip.
Anyways after calling them to let them know how displeased I was with how my item arrived, I got a bounced from the receptionist back to a parts department that never picked up. Left a message, no call back. My email to them got the same treatment.
Dispite the packaging that a 3 year old could have done better on, the order wasn't missing any parts and the racks installed beautifully. I love the look of em.
From this experience, I've learned that you basically pay for what you get. This place offered the racks almost $60 bucks cheaper than some other places I looked. I found a couple for $10 or $15 bucks more. Looking back, the $15 bucks would've saved the aggrevation.
^Sorry to hear about that. At least it came complete and there were no damage.
I check TRDPARTS4U.com. They offer a set shipped for $245.
Roof Rack - Stowaway DOUBLE CAB PT278-35050 Regular Price: $ 295.00 On Sale For: $212.75Is that the right part #. If I order that. I will have it complete and ready to install? Thanks
I really wish Toyota made this roof rack for Access Cabs. I really don't want to have to get another Thule. The mounting feet always scratch up the clear coat. The factory rack is far cleaner looking.
I'm guessing I couldn't fit the factory rack on my access cab because the cab is too short for the rack?

I was thinking about getting a set of these? What is involved with the install? Does it come with different weather strips? Or do you need to cut yours?
THe OEM willl leave some nice lines in your clear coat. Due to the way the rack sits along the entire roof, dirt and stuff get caught under there and begin the mess with your paint. I bought my taco without the rack and decided to get one for my kayak. The rack was ok the 1 kayak on there but it felt like it wouldnt be safe with 2 of em up there. Upon looking at my oem after i took it off i also noticed some stress fractures in the plastic (cheap oem piece of crap). For anyone considering wasting your money on the rack, please goto a dealer, look at one yourself. Then make you own choice. I made the mistake of wasting $230 on some cheap platic that never really served its purpose nor did it compiment my truck. I'm looking for a real rack, something i could mount a cargo basket to and feel safe with 33" spare and high lift mounted. Maybe i should talk to Demello offroad.
PS. anyone who does purchase this rack and doesnt like it, you will be forking over another $90 dollars or so for new weather strips and the little clips the you break off during the install. BIG waste of time and money.
I put a set on my truck and love them. The black strips pull off and mounting hole are covered up with some tape that got painted over. They even came with donut seals to put over/around the holes to keep water out. Took about 45 minutes to install. I'll never know if my clearcoat will get scratched, because they're never gonna come off. I got them after I almost kissed my roof with my extention ladder that I was putting onto my Thule bed racks.

Thanks!
Larzzzz pretty much nailed it. The install was super easy. Take off the old strips, put down the new strips, screw down the racks (2 in the middle, 2 on the ends). I think I had a little trouble with the holes at the ends lining up right, but after putting a little muscle into it, I got it.
