Toytec Rear Shock Extenders helped my Ride!

Did OME coils with AAL using the OEM factory off road Bilstiens. Had issues with the factory shocks fully extending at the slightest bump and dip. Doug with Toytec decided to fabricate a solution in the form of extenders. I received the Toytec extenders today and installed them. All I can say is wow! What a remarkable improvement over the stock set up with AAL.

The Tacoma off road set up with the Blistiens would fully extend at the slightest dip or bump in the road causing a roaring "thump" as the shock had little room before full extension with the AAL rear lift installed. While installing the Toytec rear shock extenders I unscrewed the upper shock mount and noticed the weight of the unsupported rear differential caused the shock to drop approx. 2 inch from the shock mount while in the fully extended shock position. The rear shock extenders added 2 1/2 to 3 Inches of added length to the height of the shock and mount thus allowing increased travel.

The result is a much smoother ride and the ability to hit dips and bumps without slowing and realizing the factory shocks damping effect as if I installed extended length shocks. No more worries of hitting a bump to fast with the AAL and breaking to avoid a jarring experience for passengers or myself. The install itself was done in 20 minutes.

Doug and Toytec thanks again for your insight, the fabrication and expertise.

What about the front? Did you extend those also??

I have been thinking about the shock extenders that NAPA auto parts sell. But I would need to order longer brake lines first.

No Toku, I did not experience any sort of travel limitations with the front set up. In fact the OME front shocks are almost the exact same length as the factory Bilstiens. I checked the rear break lines during install and there was ample play in the line with full extension.

Are these on the ToyTec site? I searched and couldn't find them. How much are they? Will they give any lift at all?

Looks to me like a threaded rod coupling with a stud screwed in one end. I'm sure it's stong and most of the force is inline with the shaft. But in my eyes you just created a weak link. I've seen failure occur normally before or after the coupling, but they were used in construction fabrications. I don't know how much I would trust that. just my 2 cents.

You can get these at most auto parts stores. Ask for shock extenders.

They do not give any lift. They allow your shocks to have full range of damper.

These will be a new item offered from Toytec. I believe they will be in the $10-$20 range. Give Doug with Toytek a call.
