I have to ask this question since I'm looking into getting new tires to replace my OEM's.
Everyone on here seems to go with either the BFG's or the Revo's and swear by them, but I'm not sure why other than they look more aggressive. The Pirelli's are rated the absolute best AT tire on Tirerack, in fact, now that I look closer, the Revo's and BFG's aren't in the top 3! Any thoughts on why everyone insists on these two? Is it just the look? Thanks!

I guy I work with has the Scorpions on his Ford. Fantastic tires on dry asphalt. Let one drop of water fall and the tires feel like thay are on ice.
As for off-road? He got STUCK in his own front yard on wet grass. On level ground! Based on what I'm hearing (no personal experience) these tires are the biggest P.O.S. ever invented and the people who put them at the top of the review pile have to be on crack.
Just look at them. Off road? I don't think so.

I seriously doubt that happened unless he dug himself in really deep. Lets stick away from exagerations here, come on even my eagle talon with slick street tire could get off my lawn. I've heard scorpions are comparable to BFG rugged trails, which doesn't say much for it's off-road capability, probably a great on-road tire though.
I honestly don't know why the BFG A/T is rated so low at tire rack, ask anyone from any off-roading community which is the best on/off road tire that doesn't sacrifice on-road comfort. 9 outta 10 times it's the BFG A/T.
When I bought mine two days ago or so they were number 3. Right on.

I had them on my 91 regular cab. They were awesome. Hands down one of the best tires I've had the pleasure of owning. But like it was said already...rain was bad. Kind of weird considering how well they did in the snow.

I agree, they aren't very "off road" looking, but obviously people LOVE the tire since they are Number One on what many around here consider an excellent source of reviews. Funny also that everyone rates the tire excellent for wet traction...

Exaggeration? Did I mention it was downhill? In all directions? j/k
Serious about the complaints, though. Again, not my experience, just "hearsay".
Just as serious, I've never seen bad tire advice from anyone on this forum.

Sounds like an exaggeration, but I had a similar experience years ago. We had some Cooper All-Steel radials on our one-ton (dual rears) bucket trucks at work. I was on a damp grassy area, slight incline, and had to be towed out. Tires had plenty of tread and looked great (and lasted forever) but had near zero traction off the pavement. Oh by the way, I was in 4WD and left no ruts... darn tires just spun, may as well have had highway treads.
I had a bad experience with Pirelli Scorpion ATs on a 95 Toyota those were the worst tires Ive ever owned terrible ride, and could not balance properly stay away from Pirelli Light truck tires Although I dont know why the Scorpion ATR gets great reviews on Tirerack.com but stay away from the Scorpion ATs they really suck in all respects.

So you're referring to the AT's and not the ATR's, correct?

Yes most definely the ATs in a LT235/?/15 size they really sucked terrible in all respects,Ill never by a Pirelli based on that experience. With the ATRs lots of reviewers are having balancing issues that Ive read, and returning the tires for a different brand,I dont know how they are at the top of the list but not for this boy
I have been tempted to try out the Scorpion ATR's also. I currently have Revo's and after 30k miles they are ready to be replaced. They have become very noisy and rough. When I first got the Revo's it took 2 tire shops 3 tries and 2 new tires to finally get them balanced. Im not a Revo fan after having them on both a F250 and a Tacoma. On the 250 I dont really mind the noise because you cant hear them over the 7.3 diesel. They are great in the beginning but don't age gracefully
