i just went outside to move my truck out from behind my roommates so she could go to work. when i pressed the unlock button on the remote the lights didnt flash. the doors unlocked still, but when i got in the dome light was dim. i put the key in the ignition and it wouldnt even make a clicking sound
the only reason i can think of it doin this is from the amp. my brother hooked it up and made it stay on all the time. he told me it wouldnt pull much power at all while the truck was off. ive had my truck off for longer than this before even with the amp in. i even have the heavy duty battery. wtf?
has anybody experienced this problem?? im sure its just the amp and ill have to have it rewired somehow, but i never thought it would pull that much power just from the led light bein on... but im no expert at audio wiring whatsoever
It is more than likely the amp. The remote turn on or the power antenna wire from the radio, that is if it is aftermarket, needs to be wired directly to the amp. That wire goes between the power and ground wire tab on most amps. If you are using your stock deck you need to tap a wire off of your ignigion wire and run that to your amplifer turn on lead.
This will not only save your battery, it will allow your amp to turn off when not in use. By leaving it on at all times, the way it is wired now, you will cause it to wear out quicker.

You could always wire in a switch to control the power to the amp so on the rare occasion you don't want the bass kicking you just flip the switch. It's a little ghetto but it works.

never ever leave any electronic component running.
did you know that a relay left on will kill most batteries overnight?
thats at 500mA thats right... thats milli amps (1/2 an amp)\
sounds like he knows how to hook up amps but has no clue how
electricity works. its not a bad thing as DC voltage is easy but its
just as easy to kill someones battery as you found out.
your brother was too lazy to run the remote lead. Kick his ass

Don't let your brother mess with your truck anymore. An amps turn-on wire should never be connected to constant power.
The amp probably finally wore down your battery enough where it couldn't recoup. Short drives are also hard on batteries.
If you can't connect the amps turn-on wire to the radio's amp output turn-on then you can connect it to this empty spot in the under-dash fuse panel. It turns on and off with the ignition. Use a male spade connector and connect to the bottom terminals in the slot.
thanks for the info. i got a friend that knows about wirin up audio comin over tommorow. hopefully we can fix it. for now ive just been unpluggin the remote with my pliers when i get out of my truck. ill let him know about the open slot and see what he can do. i wished i was halfway knowledgable about wiring up stuff. i can do mechanical stuff all day long.... just dont like electric anything
