Had a 4-runner preiously and went with a quad cab because now I have the best of both worlds. The interior space like an SUV and the bed to just throw stuff into.
I wouldn't want to drive one around here, where I go wheeling, but it isn't that difficult for me to see why lots of people want one. And not everyone with a Tacoma goes wheeling; quite the opposite, I bet.
Toyota did a lot of market research before releasing a quad cab Tacoma, and clearly it has paid off handsomely for them. I see far more quads than access or standard in the late-model trucks.
FWIW, the access cab is also built to accomodate a child seat, but let's face it, the opera-style doors are a hassle, creating a trap of sorts in most parking situations. Same with the RX-8- you open the doors, and you are boxed in if leaving the back seat. A reasonable compromise for occasional use, though. Just like the length of the quad cab is a compromise. Buy whatever suits your needs best.
I love my Double Cab. I have taken mine off-roading without any issues. But like everyone else I bought my truck to drive everyday, rain, snow, sleet or shine. Ohh, by the way 'Quad Cabs' is a Dodge coined term, we call them Double Cabs round here.
I bought my double cab with long bed because i needed a truck, but also wanted the option of carrying 4 passengers. There are times when its nice to have that space, like when me, my wife, and cousin and his gf go on a camping/fishing trip on the beach, or when me, my father in law and brother in law go hunting.
Not everyone has 20k-30k sitting aroudn just waiting to be spent on a vehicle that does nothing but take one or two people off roading. I need mine every day, wherever I go.

Damn you... You beat me to it! LOL
To each his own... different models apply for different requirements. I need the back seat for picking up commuters/hunting buddys and my dog can ride when i fold down the back seats. The DC makes the Tacoma a versitile vehicle. I need a truck but also need the extra seating.
Welcome Munge.

I traded my 94 x-cab for a quad cab because, yes, I too have 2 kids I need to strap in! When we went to Australia in 2000, there were quad cab Hi-Lux's everywhere. Made me wonder why it hadn't happened in the states yet.
I needed the DC because I have 3 BIG hunting buddies... and I'm the size of a mouse.
BTW, my 07 Tacoma has MUCH better turning radius than my 98 Tacoma had. I'm turning my 07 around on the same one-lane dirt/mud logging roads that would get my 98 in trouble.

Yeah that's why I sold my F-150 supercab for the Tacoma double cab.
Ive got an 04 doublecab tundra, and that save me form having to ride with the inlaws to family functions.(now the parents can ride in back ) Double cab, quad cad, mega cab,supercab,whatever..The pickup has evolved to carry passegers comfortably just as a car would, except with all the functions of a 4wd truck

3 kids here. A must have for all 3. AC only has 2 fold downs.
I guess he thinks that a 13" difference in length will make all the difference in the world for turning around

Opinions are like Buttholes....Everyone has one! They all can stink at one time or another!
Just because you have one doesn't mean you have to act like one!
Have you hugged your kids today?
Before I bought my DC Taco, I had a regular cab F-150, 8ft bed. The truck was great, but try going camping 4 hours away with your girlfriend and her dog... Ohh, and don't forget about the rain rain pouring down as you try to keep all of your camping stuff dry... Two wheel drive and open diff means you don't go anywhere muddy in the rain cause you'll stay there until someone big enough pulls you out...
I love my DC 4x4 Tacomo Sport. I have room for passengers, gear, stuff, whatever. The 4x4 has yet to fail me getting out of someplace I drove into. I have put it through some deep mud, wet sand, rocky and steep trails. I haven't gone rock crawling, this is my daily driver and it would suck to break something vital (like an axle or driveshaft) and have to walk to work the next day...
Your mileage may vary, so far my '06 DC Taco has proven itself to be the right truck.
