Fairly new to this forum, all though I have been browsing for a while now.
I have a 2006 tacoma that is bone stock except for the parts replaced when some bum hit me. But at any rate ... It is a 4x4, extended cab, v6, 6-spd sr5.
I ran into some mud this weekend on a camping trip and decided it was time for some new tires, as the factory tires suck on anything that is remotely slippery.
Just curious waht happens if i upgrade to a 265 75 16 versus the 245 70 16 on the truck. I know there are implications with the odometer, speedometer, gas mileage etc. is there any way to fix the odometer/speedometer? will the dealer do it?
Now on to the tire question. I have been eyeing the Cooper Discovere S/T. ANy advice or recommendations on this tire or any other tire?
Thanks for your help. I am excited to finally start doing a little work on my truck starting with new tires.
A word to the wise before the search Nazi's get you you can find a lot of info about different tires and what the changes in size do to your odometer, speedometer, etc... just by using the search option. I know that with my 91 toyota truck I have 34" TSL Super Swampers on it and my speedo is off by about 5 to 10 mph it changes when i get on the highway. I hope this helps though.
i have the cooper stt. the s/t is discontinued and the st/c took over. stt is an awesome tire for onroad and really good for offroad. amazing wet traction and mud. the 265/75/16 will fit, but they will fill up the wheel wells pretty well. there are afew trucks on here with that setup stock wthout a lift, but it looks to me like they need to be lifted. There is no rub without a lift with those tires, that is a good thing if ur not gonna lift. i have that size with a 3 inch lift and its a very nice combination to help out with gas, and it looks bigger than my stock 265/70/16. that actually could be another size to consider if ur not lifting, i think that size would look better without a lift. thats what the stock trd offroads come with.

treadware is even, road noise is a little louder than stock, but if u have ever ridden in a truck that has bfg mud terrains, it is absolutely nothing like that. u get used to it after about a week. now i can't even notice it, and niether does anyone else in the truck for that matter. im hopin to get about 40,000 out of them, and if i get that much out of them, i'll will be buying another set when they wear out.

Ok, so i had a tire dealer tell me yesterday that the 265/70/16's was a very uncommon size. the quote he gave me for some 265/75/16's was way less than the 265/70/16's. Is he yanking my chain or what? I know the 275/75/16s are close without a lift, but in the case that they are a $100 cheaper ... who knows.
265/70/16 is the OE size for some tacoma option packages - and there are many manufacturers that produce tires in that size - yes that dealer is yanking your chain
