Oil filter?

What oil filter is everyone using? The stock toyota? Was planing on using the stock toyota, but came across a coupon for buy one get one free for the Purolator Pureone filter. Also, was originally going to run Castrol GTX, but came across a coupon for the New Mobil 7500 for 99 cents a bottle.

there is no right or wrong answer here (well maybe a few wrong answers). but you will get 99% opinion. this is like asking a nuetral crowd who's better...ford or chevy?

if you want to make an informed decision and educate yourself about motor oils and filters spend some time on BITOG.

fwiw...i use what i consider the best, k&n oil filter and GC oil. but you aren't going to find that stuff cheap

Just basically wondering if their is any justification in using the toyota filter compared to competiors. For some reason a lot of people seem to lean toward the Toyota filter or a high end and from what I can tell their isn't anything special about the Toyota filter. Yeah wasn't trying to start a debate with everyones opinion just trying to see if there is any justification for the Toyota filter. Cause the info I ahve found is that they are made by Purelator anyways. Also on you pic I don't see the dog listed as a custom add-on. My taco didn't come with one of thos stock.

yeah, the dog was a dealer option, it was part of their security package

i don't know what type of justification you were looking for about the filter, but most filters are made by the same company. but i can't tell you how the oem filter compares to the purealator filters.

I used to use the Toyota filters, but recently switched to the Mobil1 Jeep Liberty filter. It's a good bit bigger (longer) than stock...

The PureOne seems to have about the finest filtration properties in tests I have seen, but there are some reports that it also allows a lower flow rate. If you run this one, I suggest using the oversized PL20195 rather than the listed PL10241 so you can achieve better flow. Same specs except taller, and there's plenty room for it. (I'm running it.)

Absolutly only use toyata oil filters. They incorporata an anti-drainback valve that keeps oil in the filter while the engine is not running.Ever noticed that your filter is upside down? The benefit is that upon cranking the cold engine it will have instant pressure in the oil system. If the filter was right sside up this would not be a problem.

Most filters made today incorporate an anti drain back valve . Wix, AC Delco, Purolator, Napa, Mobil1 and Fram all have them in their filters. The Anti drain back valve is not synonomous with just Toyota. Purolator, Mobil 1, Napa/Wix, AC Delco all make great OEM alternative filters.

the toyata probably has a more durable valve than aftermarket because when changing oil with aftermarket filters, oil pours out of them, and not so much with
the toyota.

No what I'm saying is most oil filters are manufactured with an anti drain valve based on the application of the filter. Toyota is not the only filter that has the anti drain capability. I use NAPA Gold filters made by WIX and it too has an anti drain valve. In fact if you do a search on oil filters you will see that the new Toyota OEM filter is not as good as the one that came from the factory in your truck. And before you ask, yes the filter tha comes in your truck from the factory is a different model than most dealers sell.

Probably??? So you're speaking from experience or opinion? Have you used a different filter than the Toyota OEM?

I have been a professional mechanic for over 12 years and this is the experience I have witnesses thousands of times. The toyota filters are made better, leak less oil out of them when they are removed.
