Temperature Compass Display Not Displaying

I've never had any problem with this on a 2005. Yesterday, the display stopped displaying. I clicked through the options using the black button underneath the display, but still no display. Is this a bulb fix?

The only problem I have is that sometimes my temp gauge is very inaccurate. For example, if I start my truck in the morning and the temp gauge says 45 degrees but I only go for a short drive then start the truck up later on at let's say 3:00PM it obviously a lot hotter like in the 70's but the temp gauge will still only say 45 degrees and unless I keep the truck running for a long while it won't correct itself.

My temperature / compass display went dead too. I took out the electronics device from the console and saw that the (2) resistors in the top left hand corner marked "510" had a bogus solder to the panel. I got out my solder gun and reflowed the solder on both sides of both resistors. I also noted that there was flux residue left around some of the component leads on many of the PWA components. I took a small acid brush moistened with alchohol and cleaned the entire PWA. I put the display back into the truck and it works like new.

I initially took it to Toyota to see if they would cover it under warranty, they said there was something failed in the electronics device and my extended gold warranty wouldn't cover it. This replacement part is valued at $1008.00. No way was I going to spend that kind of money for it. I have to comment that the solder joints looked complete and solid around the resistors, but it was either the flux had caused a ground or the solder joints of the resistors were less than ideal. My temperature / compass display worked fine for 2 years, then is started to an have interupted display (sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't). Before you spend a lot of money and time trying to figure out this problem, please give this some consideration.

I have a 2005 Tacoma 4x4 access cab V6 (just for the record).
