You have to use spacers to run stock rims correct? Marcus at 4WP in Santa Ana Cali said I could not go with a 16 inch steelie with 285/75/16 or else the the UCAs will rub. He recommended 287/70/17, what does the 70-75 number indicate? All I know is that at 17, both rims and tires will be more expensive..
The first number (e.g., 245, 265, 285, etc.) is the width of the tire in millimeters. Doing the conversion, a 265 size tire is about 10.5" wide; a 285 size tire is about 11.25" wide.
The second number is the "aspect ratio." It is the ratio of the width of the tire to the sidewall height of the tire. In other words, this number tells you the height of the sidewall based on the width of the tire. There is actually a decimal point in front of the number (e.g., 70 is actually 0.70), but it gets dropped off for the formula. For example, if you have a 265/70/17 tire, your width is approximately 10.5" and your sidewall height is 10.5" * 0.70 = 7.35".
The third number is the diameter of your rim. Putting these three numbers together, you can figure all the relevant dimensions of your tire. As calculated above, for a 265/70/17 tire, your width is approximately 10.5" and your sidewall height is approximately 7.35". Knowing the rim diameter allows you to calculate the total diameter of your tire (2 times your sidewall height + the diameter of your rim): 2 * 7.35" + 17" = 31.7".
Look at tire rack's website. Their explanation is much better than mine and comes with pictures.
The steelies on 4WP only have 4.25 backspacing. I guess I will have to go with wheelers, why wouldn't they carry 4.5 bs! I think its somewhat of a scheem to make me spend more $$$.

I don't have spacers.....yet. Yeah, they rub the UCA a little. Basically, I have a 1/2" long rub mark on the front corner, but that's it. They only hit when I turn lock to lock. So for normal driving and MOST off roading I do it's not a problem. Also, since I'm going very slow when turning that sharp I haven't had any problems, or see a reason to do anything about it yet.
