Sorry if this was posted earlier, but i looked around and didn't see anything. There are increasing reports of catalitic converters being cut and stolen from trucks. Mainly from Toyota trucks. The platinum and other precious metals in them can be sold in junk yards for $80.00 each and up.
i haven't heard of this until now. gotta have balls to sit there with a hack saw and make all that noise for a long enough time to cut one of those bastards off. or, just stupid i guess.
Need to develop a high voltage system to protect the Cat...then people won't mess with them. In the mean time, I'll stick with my M&P for defending mine

talked to a San Jose police officer about this(last month) and looks like many municipal police depts and CHP have teamed together and talked to recycling depots. The depots are aware of this scam/stealing and will stop receiving Catalytic converter metals and report suspicious thiefs.
I know of two people up in the East Bay area who have had their catalytic converters taken from their Toyota's: late 80's 4-Runner and early 90's 4-Runner. The more recent one occurred in the parking lot of an Outback Steakhouse around dinnertime. They went in for dinner, came out, started their 4-Runner, and quickly knew something was wrong when they started it up.
