Need help removing stock fog lights... (Lights are out + PICS!)
So I was on my way out to my truck this morning to go to work when I noticed something blue in the bottom of my driver's side fog light. I thought, well maybe the bulb somehow managed to work it's way into the housing. I was wrong unfortunately. The bulb is actually shattered and the glass from it is laying inside the housing. I'd like to take the housing out and see if I can get the broken glass out. At the same time I'd like to get the water out of my fog light that's been there since I went wheeling last. It's only like a quarter inch of water at the bottom but it is annoying because the housings fog up.
Anyone have any ideas how to take the housings out? I looked in the DIY thread but only found articles dealing with the fog light mod, and not the removal of them.
i had to get mine out once and it was a bitch. i actually had to get underneath to see what was going on. but like bill said push in on the tabs to realease it, then push it out from the inside out. if you get in and under there you can see the tabs and see which two need released to get it out.
Have any of you drilled holes in the bottom of the housing to help the water drain out? I noticed much water doesn't get in, but it has no real way to get out.
I finally got them out and noticed I may not need to drill any holes. There is already a small hole in the housing itself right above the bulb, but it's covered with some type of red material that doesn't let any air through. Here's what I did.
What a fog light should look like in comparison to the one I found this morning.
Here's the backside of the housing before I removed the red material plugging the OEM hole.
And here's a picture from the front. I took the picture with a light on behind it to show you guys a better idea of what hole I'm even refering to.
I had the exact same thing happen to me about a week ago, i went through alot of water(my exhaust was completly underwater) and later that night i turned on my fogs not knowing that the housings were full of water and the bulb just exploded and it was a pain to get all the little blue glass pieces out of the housing.
the red material was screen. It lets moisture out and keep road debris out.

That's just it though, there was no water inside the housing when it blew like that. And I've had my lights on plenty of times before in the past when there was water in them. Even after submerging the lights in water going through deep holes there wasn't much water anyways. Maybe an inch at most.

The last time I had my truck deep enough in water to get lights in the fogs was months ago. That hole doesn't do a very good job of venting moisture. Before I took the screens off I couldn't blow air through mine. Afterwards I could feel the air coming out. I guess I can only wait and see how the moisture vents out now. Plus I'll keep an eye to see how long it takes before I start noticing dirt inside them.

Maybe your right. I have some water in mine now still after 3 days ago. I may remove mine too.

Ya thats happened to me 3 times already just on my passenger side one, I bought a replacement fog lamp after the second time because the it blew a hole in it. It definately is letting water in and thats definately the reason why theyre blowing I dont know how to prevent it now i tried everything.
I found the easiest way to get it out was sliding a thin flat head screwdriver down a side and popping that tab out and repeating that on the other side and it pushed right out from the back
