How quiet is your ride?

How quiet is the interior of your Tacoma when driving it? Any squeaks, rattles or annoying noises?

I have a slight creak somewhere in my steering column since about 17k miles, and a little rattle in the console, which I think I've isolated to the front cupholder area. Maybe I can play around with this and fix it. I'm not sure about the steering column.

This noises tick me off more than anything. Some days I want to sell my truck, or take a baseball bat to the interior when I hear these noises.

For $30 grand, I think the thing should be quiet and tight.

How do yours sound with radio off?

mine is quiet at 22k miles. i think people are to picky with this kind of stuff anyway. the interior is made up of a bunch of pieces of plastic shoved together. once and a while, pieces are going to rub and make a noise. trust me, we have it good compared to the domestic trucks.

So far so good on mine....but it only has about 3k miles on it so far.

However, I don't know of many cars/trucks that don't have some rattles and squeaks here and there.

11K miles and, as many times as I've taken apart my interior, it's still QUIET.

I know how frustrating rattles can be though, so I've taken a lot of precautions. When I installed my aftermarket head unit and other mods, I taped and velcroed all my wires, harnesses and adapters down. I also lined the coin cubby to the left of the steering wheel with felt so that my coins don't rattle. I also felt-lined the edge of my radar detector where it touches the windshield glass. Most importantly the whole interior has two layers of sound deadening.

Most of the panels I have taken out seem to have felt pads in all the contact areas, so they do try to make things quiet. Sometimes, you just have to do a little touchup after a few thousand miles...

Flux, can you tell me about this sound deadening? Is this easy to install? Sounds like what I need to reduce the road noise.

Maybe i need to use felt on some of these plastic edges to eliminate the rubbing and squeaking.

Thanks,

Giff

Wow. I hate to hear about things like this, but I guess it can happen. I suppose you could take it in, but I'm not so sure how much sympathy you'd get from the dealer.

At 43,000 miles, mine is noise/rattle free, unless I hit a speed-bump or pot-hole really, REALLY hard. Otherwise, very quiet for a 4wd truck up about 70mph. At 75mph and above the wind noise is god-awful. As luck would have it, at 75mph and above, the miles-per-gallon is god-awful too, so I take the hint and keep her under 75.

Perhaps it's time you grabbed a few hand tools and familiarized yourself with the taco's "nether regions".

There are a lot of options out there for sound deadening your interior, but unfortunately they all require stripping down the interior of your cab and the better ones are not cheap. It's not complicated, but it is very labor intensive and takes a lot of time. If you're not able to put in many hours of work, I'd take it to a shop and have it done professionally.

Your local craft store or hobby shop should have felt with adhesive backing. I've found it pretty useful.

Nice and quiet The occasional clutch squeak but not annoying enough to go get the TSB done.
