Climate control color change.. 1 small step closer.

So I finally came across a spare climate control unit and I bought it last night. This means that I will be able to work on changing the color, without sacrificing my unit.

Hopefully I can come up with a solution and can complete the dash color change. If I get it to work then I might be able to do an exchange program, much like I am doing with the clock/hazard PCB.

Keep your fingers crossed! and keep your eyes peeled for more units. Oh and wish me luck.

it never ends.. by the time you think your done, then the OEM parts wear out and you have to replace them with other better parts.

Ok so, once again, the climate control wins.

I am able to get the AC button and the recirc. button to light up blue. I was able to remove the orange coating with no issues.

The problem with the rest of the unit is the orange coating is on the outside, unlike the buttons that had the coating on the inside. When I try to remove the coating it removes the silver and the characters will be deleted. If they would have put the orange coating on the inside then we would have been golden.

I am going to photocopy the icons and print them out onto stickers. Then I am going to take off all the silver paint, the orange coating and try to put the icons back on. This will take me a while I am sure, but I will update you all when I get a chance.

+1 for me!

Ok, so I am finally making some progress with the climate control color change. It is still a work in progress but I have scanned the controls and stripped the silver and orange from one of the controls. Here is how it looks so far, it is still very rough and will take a lot of sanding to get the plastic smooth again. Hopefully I can get it done and have it look OEM.
I once again have HOPE!
