Need some advise on the following. I had an oil change and tire rotation done on my '06 Tacoma yesterday. After picking the truck up later in the evening I got about as far as 500 yards where the front left wheel came off. Luckily I wasn't going at a high rate of speed and know one was injured. Here's the question. Besides having one of the wheel studs breaking off and some damage to the rotor what other possible danage could have occured and what should I look for in terms of repair?
Lugs were apparently over-torqued (probably air impact wrench) -- at the very least, all of the lug studs (at that corner) should be replaced, as they have probably been stretched and weakened. I would be tempted to have all lug studs on the truck replaced, for the same reason. Might want to have both rotors replaced as the other one may have been warped.
And if you can't do this work yourself, ask your next shop (you won't be going back to the same place, right?) to torque the studs by hand. If they balk, you're at the wrong shop...
edit: Just realized this is misleading... I assume you'll take it back to the shop that screwed it up, to work out the details of them fixing it right or paying another shop to do it. My comment about doing the work yourself refers to your future oil changes/tire rotations.
i'd go to the shop where they did the bad job, and ask the name of the owner, and insurance company..... i'd take the truck to the toyota dealer and have them repair and replace everything related..... and have the monkeys that did the bad work, pick up the tab..... could be lawyer time?
ask the business where this occurred to pay for damages first, THEN lawyer up!!!! they'll settle and will pay to fix it cuz they're completely in the wrong and they won't want the hastle of a lawsuit.

As someone who has had a similar experience. I am "STRONGLY" encourage you to find a good attorney who has dealt with this type of suit. Do not try and work some thing out with the manager. You will regret it later on. You might think it can all be repaired with minor repair/replacements but don't fool yourself.
I didn't find out how much damage was really done until 5 months later and it was several thousand dollars. I did have an accident from my wheel coming off. I ended up in a drainage ditch.

Good one! I thought about it when the OP first posted... can't believe it took someone this long to bring it up!
