y-pipe left side cat cover

Anyone know why the left converter on the stock y-pipe has that metal shell and the passenger side doesn't?

hmm. my passenger side has the tinfoil, but not drivers. curious indeed. in fact I just looked at mine today while doing a post wheelin' inspection. THe only thing I could think of is that it protects the t-case from heat?

that "metal shell" is a heat shield, your catalytic converters have to be very hot to work properly
