snugtop campershell question.

hello all. i searched and found a topic about the leer campershell although it didnt answer my specific questions.

first off, if i do get a campershell, (i really need one for all my computer parts and tools) will i have get rid of the rail and tie down cleats ? or can they stay in there ? it would be nice to keep them.

and also, how much do you think a snugtop xtr would cost on average ? i called our local dealer and they said they couldnt give me a price. kinda odd.

well thanks for the help and tips.

Actually it was listed for $2,200.00 But a friend of the family who works there hooked me up. So he gave me a good price.

You might be able to find a used one like PB for way less.

It was actually new. I got it from a Toyota dealership for $800. It was taken off of Tacoma that came with it from the factory.

I got it on Ebay. Craigslist usually has a few too.

Canada CAP .... Indigo Ink

Mine cost $1800.00 here in Canada ...... installed. (you can pay a lot less of a fair bit more)

It fits beautifully, has sliding, screened windows on the sides and a slider to match to cab window.

Lots of variety out there depending what you want. A taller version is also available for hauling larger items.

It clamps on to the bed rail using 4 slick clamps, and after settling in for a few months, does not appear to leak.

I'll try to find a photo and post later.

Cheers,

Just curious, how easy or hard is it to put a campershell on and to take it off? Is it practical to sometimes have it on but take it off once in a while, or dois it too hard to do so?

ON ...OFF ...... not bad

Thats's why I had my shell installed with clamps.

Doesn't take long, BUT .......... You really need 2 guys to do it easily + somewhere to set the thing after you remove it. You need to build a rack to set it down where it will be stable ...... don't lay it flat on the ground.

The other thing is ...... wish I would have thought about it , is that the rubber strip on the lift up door rides against the tail gate and rubs the paint off as you collect dust and drive along ......... I guess most toppers do that?

my 2cents....

I kept the two pieces that it came shipped on for when I take it off, you must be very careful so as to not chip the edges when handling it.

thanks for all the feedback. i checked craigslist and nothing came up. although they were selling a set of 4 trd sport wheels for 250 dollars also i guess i gotta have right timing for ebay. so hopefully i can get one a local dealer for a little less. cuz it sucks when you got almost 5,000 dollars worth of computer parts and tools sitting in your truck and nothing to atleast kinda cover them.
