I need help with deciding on a toolbox. I'm looking for a black low profile toolbox to fit my tacoma but am having an extremely hard time finding one for around 300 bucks. Also, how secure are these toolboxes? How hard will it be for someone to just steal it off the truck once installed? Thanks
I'm looking for one that only sits a little higher than the sides... something like this:
They sell this box at Home Depot for I believe $294...There are a couple guys over on ct.com that have this box and say it's very nice/durable...mounts to the bed rails.
As far as durability there is no way you can beat the durability of a Cam Locker box that is what I have on my truck and its great mine is chrome diamond plate though and it was about $500
I've been looking at the Dee Zee Competitor series tool box in black and the best price I've found so far is from 4wheelparts.com. They have it for just over $300. One incentive I have for getting it from 4wheelparts is I got a $100 gift card from there when I got my wheels/tires, so that makes the box look THAT much better.
Why can't some one design a nice black low profile box that doesn't look like it came off a big rig 18 wheeler. I realize that diamond plate is the accepted material, but it would look so much nice with flat steel. Picture ARB making a box I guess.
I think what he means is it can slide while in the bed. Like you can pull it forward towards the tailgate...atlest thats what I think he means
That's what I mean! I don't really have to slide it to the rear for access from the tailgate like I was able to do with the factory sliding toolbox my Titan had, but I would like to be able to quickly remove the toolbox to transport a motorcycle.
On the Titan factory sliding toolbox, the installation hardware included two large pan head bolts that attached to the front rail. When you would slide the box into locking position, the pan head bolts extended through two companion holes in the front of the tool box. And then inside the tool box was a lever operated latch that would engage the pan head bolts. There were also two knobs for tightening the sides of the toolbox to the side rails. When you closed and locked the toolbox lid, your toolbox and contents were nicely secured to the rails on three sides.
This is my Toolbox. its a UWS from what i remember. cant look right now. its back in germany and im in iraq so i cant just look. i think it was around 300 bucks from a local accessory shop
Yea, I would be interested in one that had that ability also. Mainly because I'm lazy and would like it to slide towards the tailgate for access to my tools . I remember when I was looking at the Frontier before buying the Tacoma, the sliding toolbox was a point in it's favor.

X2 ON the UWS
About the same price. I've had mine over two years with NO problems. Mine is the deep model too.
